He rewards me with his own wicked grin. “I’d much rather have you ride me.”

“You’ll have to show me how…”

“Always, baby girl. Always.”

He’s gone when I wake up later that morning. I might be able to pretend last night didn’t happen, but my body hurts in only the way a lover can make it ache. Goosebumps lift on my skin as I try in vain to forget what we did, but it’s as useless as trying to stop my heart from beating. But, as much as I want to live in a fairytale dreamland, I know that romanticizing my night with Odin is only going to hurt me. He left me so he could return to hiswife. Mymother.

My stomach roils. Oh, god. What have I done?

Rushing from the bed, I stumble into the bathroom and barely make it to the toilet before I vomit. When I’m finished, I sit on the floor next to it, tears streaming down my cheeks. What if this was all part of Odin’s plan? To seduce me and then sleep with me? I’ll be ruined if anyone finds out. Hell, I might be more than ruined. I might end up dead because Grandmama won’t stand for this.

Then there’s Mother. Even though we’ve never seen eye to eye, she still doesn’t deserve this. No one does. So why in the hell did I let it happen, and more than once, at that? Pulling my knees to my chest, I sob until I have no tears left to cry. I have to get out of this house. I have to!

Hans is in the living room when I finally leave my room. I hope he doesn’t notice that I’ve been crying. He’s still on the couch, though it looks like he showered and changed his clothes at some point.

“Morning,” I say with a smile.

He groans. “Don’t talk so loud.”

“Sorry. Want me to ask the Chef to bring you some coffee?”

“That would be great.” He pauses. “Did I dream seeing Odin last night?”

“You must have,” I lie. “He’s on his honeymoon, remember?”

“Right. Guess that’s what I get for drinking so much.” He yawns. “What are you up to today?”

“Probably not much, since I’m under house arrest.”

“Really?”

I nod. “Yeah.”

“Shit. That sucks. Well, I’m sure there’s a lot we can do here.”

“You’re staying?”

He nods. “Figure I’m safer here, ya know?”

“Makes sense. Well, let me tell Chef to fix your coffee and then I’ll make sure he adds a spot for you at the table.”

Leaving Hans in the living room, I pad to the kitchen and let the Chef know to set another plate.

“Breakfast will be ready shortly, ma’am.”

“Thank you, Chef Pascal.”

I’m smiling when I return to the living room. Hans has tossed the blanket that I used last night over the back of the couch. He’s texting away on his phone, making me miss my own device.

“Sorry,” he says, dropping his phone. “One of the girls I met in Australia was texting. She’s wanting to come see me.”

“Oh?”
