“May I speak with you, Boss?”

I nodded and stepped into the hall, closing my door behind myself. My bedroom was a sanctuary. I typically never allowed anyone inside. With Havoc being here more people had been paraded through than I cared for.

We walked silently to my office downstairs and I sat behind my desk as Paolo made himself comfortable.

“Is this about Guzman?”

“No, Sir. Although, that is going well. I’ve made myself known to a few of his underbosses and I will approach them about the meeting in a few days.”

My brows went up. It’d been about a week since we’d talked about him setting up a meeting with Raul. Paolo worked fast. I liked that.

“Then what do you need?”

He cleared his throat. “I wanted to talk to you about Havoc.”

Luca had been keeping me updated on her activities during the last few days. She was bored. He said she spent a lot of time reading and playing video games, but that she was constantly complaining that she needed something to do. Not that she bothered to bring the issue up with me. “What about her?” I growled at him.

My tone made him nervous. He wiped his hands on the thighs of his pants. “You need to spend more time with her.”

I took a slow, deep breath as anger spread through me. He was telling me what to do?

“I mean…” he cleared his throat, “I noticed you two didn’t seem to be talking much.”

Noticed my ass. The staff was gossiping most likely. I crossed my arms over my chest and arched a brow at him.

“You need to spend more time with her if you want to win her over,” he repeated. “She’s feeling guilty about all of this—of being with you. It would help if you’d reassure her.”

So, she’d been talking to him directly. That was interesting.

“And you don’t think she’ll be angry that you’re betraying her confidence?” I asked with a smirk.

He thought about that. “Yeah, she probably will. But she probably wants me to betray her confidence. It's a woman thing. Gives her a reason to be mad.

I snorted at that and he shot me a grin. That wasn’t the way women worked and we both knew it.

He started to get up.

“That’s it?”

Paolo gave me another smile. “Yup. Just thought I’d pass along that nugget of wisdom.” With that he left the room.

I shook my head. This woman was turning everything upside down. I wasn’t sure how I felt about it. Before I could stand, another knock sounded.

“Come in,” I called in an exasperated tone.

Luca strolled in.

I watched him suspiciously. Usually, he didn’t bother waiting to be invited in. “What is it?”

“Nothing,” he said with a smirk, as he dropped into the chair in front of me and folded his arms over his chest.

I glared at him, daring him to say what I knew was on his mind. I swear to fuck if Havoc’s name came out of his mouth I was going to send him on the shittiest assignments I could find for the next few months.

He read the warning in my eyes and just sat there grinning like an idiot. I wondered if him being my oldest friend excluded him from me killing him. The grin widened.

Nope. He deserves it.

“I was just wondering when you were going to-”
