“Done!” Angus says in a way that seriously alarms me.

“That was a joke—I’m not rubbing your feet even for a knighthood.”

Angus pouts. “They’re not that bad.”

“Your last two pedicurists quit.”

“Sondra moved.”

“To Anaheim.”

“She said she doesn’t like driving the freeway…”

“She doesn’t like shaving your bunions.”

Negging Angus is so much fun. I should have been doing this all along. What was I so afraid of? Getting fired? I should have fired myself.

Whatever happens, when all this is over, I’m not working for Angus Tate anymore. If Sullivan taught me one thing, it’s that I’m worth more than that. Even if I’m a liar and a dropout and a hot mess, I respect myself more than Angus does.

Martinique is in a foul mood because Angus has been making her work directly with Jessica on the party planning.

“She’s got me hand sorting green M&M’s into bowls! I told her you can buy them all in a single color, but she says those taste weird.”

Jessica loves green the way that Angus hates yellow.

“Maybe they really are soulmates.”

“The devil and the devil’s mistress,” Martinique says darkly.

“Don’t let Angus hear you call him the devil’s mistress.”

She snorts. “Jessica hatesyou,by the way—she won’t stop talking shit. You must have really pissed her off at dinner.”

I think of the moment when Sullivan removed her hand from his chest, and I feel a hot bolt of triumph.

“If Jessica Kate had good opinion of me, that’s when I’d be worried. I only care what people think of me when I admire them.”

“Does that include me?” Martinique bats her eyelashes.

“You more than anyone.”

“Well, I think you’re wonderful. And I’m not just saying that so you’ll help me sort M&M’s.”

“I will help you, though.”

“Thank god,” she sighs.

Sully arrivesat noon to pick up Angus.

By that point, almost everyone in the office is hanging around their desks to get a look at my boyfriend.

“Oh my god!” Leanne the accountant says. “He looks just like that actor! Aren’t you worried he’s going to cheat on you?”

I’m more concerned with the shocked expressions I’m seeing all around me. Not a single person says, “What a lucky guy…”

Dating Sullivan is not exactly easy on the ego. Until he locks eyes with me and his whole face lights up, and he comes striding straight across the room. Then I feel like a million bucks.

He cuts though the gauntlet of staring eyes, not stopping until he sweeps me up in his arms and hugs me. He gives me a chaste kiss and sets me down, saying, “I missed you extra today.”
