I nod. "I know. I reported it."

"Me too," she gasps. She should come running with me more if she can’t run from our apartment.

"What do we do?" I wave my arms in the direction of Austin, seeing him squares his shoulders.

"We watch."

I glare at her. She’s lost her damn mind! “I called you here to help!"

"And I am helping, as Austin's cheerleader."

What the fuck! I should have called Nova, the calm one. Before I can move towards Austin to stop this, he punches Zac. Zac stumbles back before he throws himself at Austin, and I watch the two of them crash to the sidewalk. Austin rolls, gaining ground as he holds Zac down and continues punching him. Blood blasts from Zac's nose and I turn away. This can't continue.

The cops will come.

Austin can't get arrested.

Coach will kill them.

Fuck.I turn around and I rush to them. "Stop it! Now!" I drag at Austin's shoulder, and I feel him soften underneath my touch, but he doesn't move.

"Sawyer!" he yells.

Sawyer steps towards me and I counter. I see Zac roll around Austin, and something latches onto my foot, dragging me down to the ground. The world moves in slow motion, I’m vaguely aware that I’m telling my arms to move out, to catch me, to break my fall. As I hit, my elbows buckle and my head whacks hard against the sidewalk.

I wheeze as black dots float in my vision.

As I lay, dazed, I'm barely aware of the weight crawling its way up my body. I turn, preparing to fight, and then I see Zac's face edging closer to mine.

His body is on mine.

Pressure.

Bile rises in my throat as a scream pitches out of me.

Darkness erupts as the nightmare comes to life.

Weight on my body... pain… his eyes.

CHAPTER TWENTY ¦ PARENTAL TALK

?

Austin

The second the cops had arrived, I hadn't been thinking about what happens to me, I'd requested medical attention for my girl. I look at the officer in question now, feeling the fire rage in my gut. I'm not about to get into that rage at the moment because if I have my way, the officer will need medical attention.

She has a lump the size of Texas on the front of her head, and no one seems to care. Zac is going to suffer for grabbing her and bringing her down. I wish I could finish the fight, but my hands are tied up in heavy metal handcuffs.

Her head rests on my shoulder as we sit. My eyes never move from his as we sit opposite one another in this cell. I've never been arrested in my life, and to be honest, it isn't that bad. I’d do it again. But why the fuck would they put Zac in here? Are they trying to up the charges when we fight it out after being arrested? Storm clouds gather in Zac's eyes. I love a good storm. My boys flank me, moving their asses a little closer, as if they sense something is going to happen.

The only reason we’ve been given for the longer stay is interviews and following leads. It's obvious what's happened.

My swollen cheek.

His broken nose.

My girl and the crater on her head.
