I miss him.

"God! Just stop!" Avery growls.

"What? I'm annoyed and worried!"

I'd even run past the boathouse, followed by Avery, for two mornings in a row and I hadn't seen him. The boathouse had been closed and it's never closed. What’s going on? Where is Coach? I have an assignment due, and this isn't going to help my grade.

"Just text him!"

"I have!" I respond in kind to her pissy attitude.

It's hardly my fault her flirty days with Lucas have come to an end. In all the time I've known Austin, he's never beenthis distant with me, he's always responded to my texts. Have I screwed up in holding back with him? My cell buzzes on the bed next to me and I practically jump on it. I wish to see his name, but my heart drops into my stomach when I see Sawyer's.

Sawyer:Problem

My heart takes a further dive. If Sawyer says there’s a problem, then we have one.

"Text from Austin?" Avery asks.

"No. It's from Sawyer."

Mia:What's the problem?

Sawyer:We haven't heard from Austin since Aspen

I frown. What the hell? And they’re just telling me this now?

Avery sits up on her bed, sensing the shift in me. "What?"

"Austin's missing..." I mumble, trying to control the bile rising in my chest.

Mia:You live together, how do you lose him?

Sawyer:He took off

And no one followed him? What the hell!

Mia:WHY???

Sawyer:His dad died

I gasp.

"Jesus. You're full of theatrics today. What now?" Avery jumps out of the bed, pulling on her jeans like she's ready for business.

"Austin's dad died."

"Oh...shit..." Her face scrunches with worry.

Mia:Where would he go?

Sawyer:We thought he was with you

Mia:And you didn't think to check!

Sawyer:I'M CHECKING NOW!

Oh. Sawyer has a temper. I can join him with that one and we will see who comes out less bruised. I don't understand why theywould allow their friend to leave, or not ring him over the course of three days.
