“I guess,” she answers nervously.

“Okay, I’ll see you in a minute.”

“Okay.”

When my driver pulls along the street, I exit and take the elevator to her apartment. And after I knock, her roommate answers.

“Livia right?”

“Yes.”

“I don’t know if we formally met, I’m Dom.” I hold my hand out for her to shake, and she does. But there is skepticism written all over her face.

“I’m Livia. Come sit down,” she offers as she sits across from me.

“Geneva is at work, and earlier, I was talking to her about maybe leaving this area, it’s gotten so bad with crime, and she’s been a victim of it herself.”

“She has been a victim of it. But it’s all been because of you. She never had any problems beforehand.”

Damn she was right. “And I’m here to see if I can make it right.”

“How?” she asks.

“Well, uh. There’s two options. And I think Geneva would be fine with earlier. I have a guest house that’s fully furnished with everything, a private bedroom, kitchen, living area, and there is even an office.”

“What are you saying, Dom?”

“I wanted to offer it to you. And you wouldn’t even have to pay that much in rent. Not nearly as much as this place. There’s a pool, a hot tub, and a private gym area you are free to use.”

“What’s the catch?”

I chuckle. “No catch, Livia. I care about Geneva’s well-being as well as yours. And I want you both to be safe. My place is heavily guarded as well.”

“Or?”

“Or I can put a down payment on a two-bedroom place in a better area, maybe even closer to my place.”

“What about Geneva?”

“I’m going to ask her to move in. If she says no, then I’ll get the place for the both of you.”

“Okay, I can see where you are coming from. Before I can agree to anything, what are your intentions with my best friend?”

“Geneva means more to me than you know. And I know I have put her in danger, but like I said, I don’t want to do that anymore. Seeing her hurt in any way, guts me. I love Geneva, there is no denying that. One day, I want to ask her to marry me. And I can’t do that without having your blessing, and I will ask her father as well. Even though I know she’s stubborn and has her own career, I still want to take care of her in any way possible that she allows. I’ll never stop her from working either, she’s independent and her own person. The thought of losing her kills me. I feel like I can’t breathe unless she’s near.”

I lift my eyebrows and hold my breath, because Livia doesn’t mess around when it comes to her Gen.

Livia stands, holds out her hand. “You have a deal. But if you mess it up…”

“I know. I know. But I won’t mess it up.”

“I believe you. You seem genuine, and I appreciate that.”

“So guest house or a different place?”

“You should talk to Geneva first. Then we can discuss details.”

“I respect that. Thank you for your time, Livia.”
