“Goodnight, Astera.Thanks.”

I head to my room, take my robe off and plop into bed.Only a wall separates Griffin and me.My heart is beating fast.I did my best to play it cool in front of him and act nonchalant.Even though I can handle Cutter all on my own, I make a mental note to thank Griffin tomorrow for coming to my rescue.None of the guys at the club scare me because they already respect me, and in a way, they were protective of me because of Logan. But like I told Griffin, I earn my keep and keep it moving.Thankfully the job is enough to pay my bills with a little extra to put to the side.

Grabbing my phone, I text Claire, my best friend, and baby sister to Rowan. She bartends at the bar down the street from the club. Most of the guys hang out there too.

Griffin is here and sleeping on my couch.

What?Why?When?

He just came over to see how I was doing after that debacle with Cutter.

I heard about it.Are you okay?

I’m fine.No marks. But I told Griffin he could have my couch to sleep on since it was so late. We’ll ride back to the club in the morning.

Well, don’t do anything I wouldn’t.

I don’t think there isn’t much you wouldn’t do.Ha.Ha.Ha.

Bitch.

Alright, I got to go.Goodnight.

Night.

ChapterThree

GRIFFIN

Even though it was hard, I was a perfect gentleman last night.I definitely didn’t want to jump into anything serious with anyone. But knowing we were so close in proximity, it was tempting. Her room was only a few feet away.Literally on the other side of the wall.

“Come and eat,” she calls out as I am waking up.

“You didn’t have to go through all this,” I say, looking at the plate of food.

“Don’t be ridiculous. Can’t have you leaving hungry.”

I smile.“It is appreciated, and looks delicious.”

After we eat breakfast, I stand to help clean the table.

“You just stay seated. It’ll only take me a few minutes to put these in the dishwasher,” Astera tells me.

She starts the dishwasher, puts on her heels, and grabs her handbag.I put my boots back on and stand to fix my shirt.“You ready to head out?”

“I am.”She stops me with a pull on my wrist.“You’re welcome here anytime you want.Even if you need a few hours or days away from the club.”

I give her a sincere smile.“I appreciate that, Astera. It means a lot to me.”As we walk outside, I make sure she gets into her car safely because I don’t know what kind of neighborhood this is.

“Anytime, Griffin.”She offers a dimpled smile. And it’s the first time I notice her smile.

“See you at the club.”

She nods.

I slide into the SUV I borrowed from Lock.Hopefully, he’s not missing it.I didn’t plan on being out overnight.Thirteen minutes later, Astera and I both pull into the club at the same time.

When I exit the vehicle, Lock immediately spots us while he twirls a toothpick in his mouth.“Way to go, buddy,” he taunts with a pat on the back.
