Already this morning, he’d spoken to each of his brothers. They’d delayed the barbecue and he knew that Cristina would be all right with that. But right now, they needed to clean up the damage, arrange for a place for their workers to sleep, and begin reconstructing the barn. Not to mention hopefully find all the tack and gear that was in the barn.

Though last night’s storm had terrified him, he felt at peace this morning. He’d spent the night in Cristina’s arms and that brought him so much joy.

As soon as he could, he was going to contact the lawyer to draw up a prenup and buy her the biggest damn diamond he could find to show her how much he loved her.

Stunned, he stood there gazing out at the land. The word love had just automatically appeared in his brain like it was a foregone conclusion.

But was this really love? Or was he just feeling this way because of his son?

No, he liked Cristina. He loved how she made him feel. How she made him laugh, the way she comforted him last night. The way she gave herself to him. How she didn’t want his money. How she made him into a better man by making him think about his choices.

And he’d made some bad ones. He’d hurt her badly when he left that morning, but it was because she’d frightened him. She was the first woman who had made him feel something, and after Taylor, that terrified him.

She’d been the first woman who considered his feelings and emotions. And he had to remember what Brittany told him. He didn’t want to remain the old Blake who had trouble keeping a girlfriend.

Maybe the universe sent him a signal by giving him Wyatt. Sure, he’d loved him at first sight, but Cristina was the one who made him feel emotions he’d never considered. And last night, lying in the safe shelter with her in his arms, he couldn’t help but think about his father. What had he felt trying to protect his mother in that closet until the very end?

While he hoped this weekend would have been more about the two of them learning about each other and seeing how she liked the ranch, if the woman could endure a tornado with him, then surely she was the right woman.

In the distance, he heard Wyatt blowing raspberries.

Blake walked into the house and into the bedroom where they had rolled his baby bed back into place. When Blake had learned she had agreed to come see him, he’d bought his son a bed to sleep in. It was the least he could do.

“Good morning,” he said grinning at the baby.

He waved his arms and legs and gave him the biggest grin. Wyatt was such a happy baby and his heart swelled with love.

“Let’s be quiet, Mommy is still asleep,” he said softly.

Blake changed his son’s diaper, carefully keeping him covered until he slid the new one beneath him. Then he picked him up and carried him into the kitchen. They had moved the bottles back into the fridge and he pulled one out and carefully heated it.

“Let’s let Mommy sleep while I feed you. Is it okay if Daddy feeds you?”

The baby hungrily grabbed the bottle and he held it to his lips.

Sitting in his recliner, he held his son and fed him his bottle. This was the life he wanted. Where Cristina was sleeping while he fed their son. Where when Wyatt grew older, Blake would teach him the things he needed to know about living on a ranch. How to respect the land and the animals and all the things his own father had taught him.

After last night, the next thing he wanted was for Cristina to say yes, sign the prenup, and marry him.

He knew she cared for him. But did she love him or would his money be an issue between them? She said she didn’t want his money, but if she moved here, he would not want her working. The drive would be at least two or more hours each way. He would want her to stay home and raise their son.

Like a slap to the face, he suddenly realized they had not used a condom last night. He had not even thought about it. Even now, she could be pregnant again. Warmth filled him at the thought. Even more reason for them to get married and soon.

This time, he wanted to be there with her every step of the way. This time, he wanted to see her body grow with his child. This time, he wanted to see his son or daughter come into this world and hold them right away.

Raising Wyatt onto his shoulder, he burped him.

His cell phone rang and he quickly answered hoping it didn’t wake Cristina.

“Yes,” he said.

“What are you doing?”

It was Taylor. What the hell did she want? He hadn’t heard from her in over a year.

“Getting ready to go clean up,” he said.

“Do you need me to come wash your back,” she said with a giggle.
