No, I’m indecisive as fuck and driving myself crazy, but that’s not what I send back. He’s been so excited to take me to Vegas. I’m not going to ruin it. No decisions have to be made tonight. I’ll go and have a good trip with him then figure things out when we get back.

Me:

I’m fine. On my way home.

Cooper:

See you soon.

When I return, Pops and Cooper both stand on my front porch. Pops grins at me as I approach while Cooper gives me a wary look. Of course he’s apprehensive. The man told me he did the kindest thing, and I ran away.

“Hey, are you packed yet?” I ask, dropping a quick kiss on his lips.

His body relaxes and guilt washes over me. He wasn’t sure I was going to go. “I was just going to do that.”

Pops gets up and sticks his hand out for Cooper to shake. “Have a safe trip.” There’s something about the look they exchange that raises my suspicion.

Once Pops disappears inside, I regard Cooper. “Did you tell him about the house?”

“No, I know you’re uncomfortable with it and we aren’t finished discussing it yet.”

Hooking my arms around his neck, I look him in the eye. “It was such a sweet, thoughtful thing for you to do, and I don’t want you to think I’m not grateful.”

His hand runs up and down my spine. “I know that.”

“Just give me a few days to think about it, okay?”

“We have all the time in the world, sweetheart.” He lets go of me. “But I’d better go pack. We have a plane to catch.”

It’s a late flight and by the time we land, it’s well past two a.m. I’ve never been to Vegas before, and my eyes are glued to the passing scenery as we ride to our hotel. All the lights and commotion. You wouldn’t know it was the middle of the night. Coming from a town where they roll up the sidewalks at eight, it’s exciting and fascinating.

Our hotel suite is thirty floors up, and the view from the windows is stunning. Cooper wraps his arm around me, pulling me back against his body while I admire the city laid out below me. “What do you think?”

“It’s beautiful. I can’t wait to get out tomorrow and see everything.”

“Hmm,” he hums agreeably. “I have to meet with the lawyers in the morning, then the rest of the weekend is ours.”

Both of us are tired after a long day plus a plane ride. We curl up in the massive bed that feels like sleeping on a marshmallow to grab some sleep. Wrapped in Cooper’s arms, I let myself forget about my reservations and the decisions that have to be made.

All that matters is this moment that I never want to end.

That’s the same mindset I hang onto when we wake. I’m determined to let everything go while we’re here and enjoy a rare experience with the man I love. Cooper’s meeting is over by lunchtime and our whirlwind day begins.

When Cooper asked what I wanted to do while we were here, my only answer was all the touristy stuff, and he really comes through. The heat is stifling—July in Vegas, no surprise—so we stick mostly to indoor air conditioned activities. He takes me to a magic show, then we ride on the High Roller—a ferris wheel that takes us five hundred and fifty feet in the air. After dinner, it’s time to hit the casinos, and while neither of us is much of a gambler, it’s so much fun. It’s a good thing there are no slot machines near me because I’d definitely blow too much money on them.

Later, we head back to the hotel room and get ready to go to a nightclub. It must be a fancy place since Cooper had to get tickets. Both of us have had plenty of drinks between all the gambling, and the smile on Cooper’s face matches mine as we ride the elevator back down to catch a cab.

Cool air bathes us as we walk into the nightclub. A massive dance floor is alive with gyrating bodies while a huge LED chandelier pulses and flashes, creating an impressive light show all around us. The music is loud, and I waste no time getting Cooper onto the dance floor with me.

He’s never looked sexier than when he pulls me close, moving with the music. My entire body buzzes and while the alcohol may play a part, I think most of this feeling is just him. It’s from being with him.

“The last time we danced like this, you confessed to having sex dreams about me,” he teases.

“Are you still hung up on that?”

“Absolutely. You never told me the truth about them.”

“Fine.” I wrap my arms around his neck and lean to speak into his ear. “You want the truth?”
