“Don’t answer that, babe,” Caleb huffed, pointing his finger at Torment. “You tell that bastard if he wants to know what my wife thinks or feels, he can fucking ask her himself.”

Looking at Caleb, then to Torment, I asked, “What’s going on?”

Torment laughed. “Prez wanted me to ask how you felt about being his little sister.”

I stiffened.

Shit.

I was his little sister.

Fuck. I had four older brothers.

How the hell did that slip my mind?

Narrowing my eyes at Torment, I smirked. “You tell him that I haven’t given him a second thought. Why should I? He’s never done a single brotherly thing for me. In fact, the other brothers treat me more like a sister than he does.”

Caleb and Torment both guffawed. “Damn, Largo, are you trying to piss the prez off?”

I shrugged, getting to my feet. “He’s not my president.”

“You know Torment is required to tell him that shit, right?”

Turning to my husband, I smiled happily before heading for the damn door. “Yep. Let’s see what he does with that. Interfering with my therapy sessions, just so he could find out if we are good. PAH-LEASE! I’ll teach that sneaky, conniving buttinsky to mettle around in my private affairs, if it’s the last thing I do.”

“God damn,” Caleb groaned. “It’s like David and Goliath.”

“Yeah,” Torment chuckled. “But who is David and who is Goliath?”

Walking out of the office, I smiled when Sophia ran over to me, hugging my waist. “All done, Mom?”

“Yep. All good, baby.”

“Cool,” she said. “We still going to the zoo?”

“Just as soon as your dad gets the lead out of his ass.”

“I heard that, woman,” Caleb growled, before kissing the side of my head when his phone rang. Walking away, he picked it up and started talking. “Hey, Montana, what’s up?”

“What do you mean, he’s dead? He was healing in the mailroom under lock and key.”

Looking over at Caleb, he quickly shook his head, frowning as he rushed back into the office to talk with Torment when my daughter asked, “Mom? Can we get ice cream?”

“I don’t see why not,” I whispered while Caleb closed the door behind him.

With my daughter’s hand in mine, I walked out of Torment’s building, feeling freer than I had been in a long time. So much had happened over the last few years. So much pain, sorrow, and deception. Life would never be the same for me. But thanks to one man who never gave up on me, I could see the sunlight again... all because of the mercy of a sinner.

THE END
