“Do you understand me?” I glanced up into his eyes and nodded.

“Yes, Alpha.”

I stood at the edge of the training field waiting for Alpha Fin to come down from the packhouse the following morning. What would I have done if I had met him while he was with his chosen? I had been thinking about this all night. It had kept me up all night and I hoped that I would be able to fight him to the best of my ability.

Why would he not wait for me? I mean, I didn’t care that he had fucked others. Hell, I did the same after I couldn’t find him. But I never allowed a male to mark me and he had marked another female. Each time I thought of this made me sick.

His scent brought my gaze up, and the sight I saw made my jaw drop. Damn! This male was fine! He wore nothing but grey sweats. His chest and abs on display. Alpha Fin was bare foot too as he strolled down to the pitch.

Alpha Fin’s beta walked beside him. Speaking with him. The grin on Alpha Fin’s lips made me melt even more. As much as I wanted to be mad at him for marking someone else, I couldn’t because I had to believe Selene, the Moon Goddess, had a reason.

“Nikita, this will be a different fight. Alphas are stronger. You’re going to have to use your size to your advantage.” The Delta I was under spoke to me as I watched Alpha Fin come down the hill to the training fields. I pulled my eyes from him and found Alpha Rory’s. The hatred in them as he looked upon my mate stirred something in my being. I had to figure out how to protect my mate from me.

“I know, Delta Kyle.” I was getting annoyed with his nagging. It wasn’t making me feel any better about any of this. Delta Kyle began to wrap my hands. Not like it mattered. I’d heal quickly enough. But hopefully it would keep me from actually hurting him.

Alpha Fin strolled up to me and nodded to my delta. Delta Kyle bowed and then left my side. I brought my gaze up to his. Every time I held his dark stare, desire rushed through me. He was nothing like the other males I had been with. The way his hair caught the sun just right to make it shine and that chiseled jaw with a tiny bit of scruff. I could only hope that this training didn’t make my desire worse. “Are you scared, my feisty girl?”

“I’m never scared of a fight.” I told him with a false sense of fearlessness. Resting my hands on my hips to keep from touching him because damn did I want to touch those washboard abs of his. Truth be told, I wasn’t afraid of the fight between me and Alpha Fin. I was wary of what Alpha Rory would do to me if I didn’t complete the mission that he forced me to do.

I had concluded that if I didn’t complete this mission, I’d die, but if I did and got caught, I’d die. There wasn’t a way I was getting out of this alive. Alpha Fin ran one of his knuckles down my cheek and I had to keep myself from leaning into his caress. “Alpha Fin, this is a fight. You won’t be able to win this with being nice to me.”

“I never intended to win, Nikita.” He chuckled as he made his way to the middle of the arena. What alpha wouldn’t want to win? Why would he want to show my pack how weak he was by letting me a lower ranked female win?

I jogged into the arena with him. This male was something else, and I wondered what had made him the way he was. The crowd had grown around the enclosure. There had always been an audience with my fights. Hell, a lot of the males placed bets. I wondered who they had bet on today? Him or me?

“This is a fight to submission. Or knock out. Fighters, are you ready?” I nodded and so did he. Alpha Fin’s eyes never left my gaze. Those eyes of his sent butterflies into my stomach and made my heart race. I took a fighting stance and waited for him to do the same.

But he just stood there with his arms at his side. I took a chance to glance at the delta as he dropped his hands and his muffled “Fight!” barely made it to my ears as I began to circle my mate.

Alpha Fin never moved a muscle unless you count his eyes. Even when I went around his back. Nothing. I finally lunged at him and I swung. My fist made contact with his chest, throwing him into the dirt of the arena. He didn’t even try to avoid it. What the fuck was he playing at?

He stood, brushing off the dust as if he wasn’t even in a fight.Cocky alpha!Enyo wagged her tail in excitement. I lunged again, throwing punch after punch, which he now evaded. So I swept his legs out from under him and that’s when the sparks raced up my leg. It shocked me so much that I became off balance.

Before I landed on my ass, more sparks raced up my arms as Alpha Fin crushed me to his chest. My gaze roamed over the crowd in front of me. They all knew he was my mate. I felt his breath on the shell of my ear. “My feisty girl. Do you see all the males that know you are mine? They won’t ever look at you or touch you the same ever again.”

So he knew! And my current conquest wouldn’t even look at me. This was the reason he said he wasn’t interested in winning the fight. This was to show all the males and the females that I was his and he was mine! It was never about the fight. I had never felt more defeated in my life.

Fin

The way Nikita slumped in my arms told me she had figured out what I was doing. Her sweet scent drove me and Aloysius crazy. The mate sparks snapped between us as I held her back to my chest. Our sweat merged as we stood there in the middle of the training pitch.

My eyes swept the crowd, and I noticed that one male kept his eyes averted more than the rest. He must have been the one she was currently messing around with. I couldn’t blame him. She was gorgeous. There would be none of that now. Everyone knew she was mine.

I told you the Moon Goddess would have us a mate! But no, you wanted to wallow.Aloysius scoffed at me as he wagged his tail. Nikita elbowed me in the kidney, allowing her to leave my arms. Her eyes flickered between her wolf’s and hers. She took a deep breath before she glanced over to the left side and then walked away from me through the crowd.

I let her go so as not to cause a scene. Nikita’s hunter green eyes held something other than the joy of finding me. Was there hurt in them? Sadness? Harlen came up to me and clapped me on the shoulder, bringing my attention back to the now.

“You did great. I’m glad you didn’t actually fight her.” Harlen’s smile reached his eyes. I knew he hoped I would find my mate. He didn’t mind when I chose Kalila, but he wanted me to be strong.

“I told you I wasn’t going to fight her. I know how tough she is, and I know that she could take me if she really wanted to.” I told him as I spotted Alpha Roy coming up to me. His face was stoic as he stopped in front of me. Nothing like it was when I arrived yesterday.

“I hope you figured out what you wanted to know. How about we meet in an hour to discuss this alliance? That will give you plenty of time to shower and make it to my office.” Something was off with Alpha Roy now. Did he have something against me?

“That’s fine. Thank you for your hospitality.” I nodded to him as he turned and left with his mate. Something was definitely wrong, and I was going to have to watch what I said and did while I was here.

“Well, I don’t see why he wouldn’t give you the alliance. I mean, you are the mate to one of his pack members.” Harlen walked with me to the packhouse. What he said was true, but once Nikita left this pack, they would lose one of their better warriors. And I didn’t think that he liked that too well.

Nikita stood on the steps with her Delta as she unwrapped her hands. I couldn’t get over the way her body moved. As much as I loved seeing her in the clothes she was in, I didn’t like that other males could see her like this as well. Her eyes flickered over to mine, and I grinned at her before she brought her gaze back to her superior. Since the male was mated, I didn’t mind her being so close to him.
