The sight before me stopped me in my tracks. Nikita was again fighting with Jade and Harmony stood behind Jade, ready to jump in when needed. Jade’s eyes came to me just as Nikita started to turn.

“Why should I have to choose when I know that you and that Alpha that just left is planning on killing my Alpha?” The smirk on Jade’s face as she laid there and the nervousness coming through my bond with Nikita made this whole ordeal that much worse.

“Everyone leave other than Nikita.” A group of wolves had gathered in the foyer at the commotion.Don’t be too hard on her, Fin. We know that Alpha Roy kept her linked to him for something.Aloysius spoke up in my head.

I was hurt, but I knew there was something going on. Every time he came, she tried to stay away from him. But this time, he had been sitting with us at our table.

“But Alpha! I know what I spoke is the truth! I heard her and him talking about it.” Jade was frantic as she stepped closer to me. Nikita stayed silent but held her head high as Jade continued to speak. She didn’t even try to defend herself.

“Jade, I told you and everyone else to leave us.” I growled at her but my eyes were glued on my mate. Nikita never flinched.

Harmony came over and grabbed Jade, and the others dispersed. Harlen followed Jade and Harmony to make sure that they didn’t stick around. Nikita stood as still as a statue, her arms resting beside her.

“Are you going to defend yourself?” I had wanted her to beg for mercy, but I knew that wouldn’t happen. Nikita wasn’t one to beg, and that was what I loved about her.

“There’s nothing to defend. I wasn’t going to do what he wanted. I knew coming to your pack that if I didn’t do what he wanted, he would kill me. So, I stayed away from him. If he comes back to the Luna ceremony and you aren’t already dead. He will kill me. I knew when he told me what he wanted me to do, I would be dead either way.” Nikita’s voice was strong, but it held sadness in it. “I’d rather die protecting you than kill you and live.”

“I won’t let you die. No one will take you from me.” I stalked up to her. Nikita’s eyes never left mine, even as I towered over her. “I refuse to lose my mate.”

“How are you going to trust me? Now that you know what Alpha Roy had wanted me to do?” Nikita’s eyes began to water as she stared at me. My hand was caressing her face. How was I going to trust her? She had been sent to kill me by her alpha, and I didn’t even know why.

Fin you know that the Moon Goddess has her plans. If Nikita wanted to keep her secret, she would’ve killed Jade. Take her to our room and find out more. Stop acting like you have no sense and ask the hard questions.Aloysius reprimanded me as I stood there staring at her. Part of me was proud of her for finally telling me what was going on with her these past two months.

“Come with me. We have more to talk about.”

Nikita nodded and allowed me to step ahead of her. She followed just slightly behind me, which I didn’t like. Slowing my pace, I placed my hand at her lower back and steered her up the stairs beside me.

My pack probably thought I was crazy for not putting her in the dungeon like I should have, but Aloysius was right. And I trusted his instincts more than my own sometimes. Wolves that were cleaning bowed their heads, but I could feel their disappointment in the link. They didn’t know what I knew about Nikita.

I opened our door and Nikita stepped in. Heading to the couch, I sat down and motioned for Nikita to sit with me. She came up to me and sat in front of me on the opposite settee.

“Tell me, why is Alpha Roy wanting me dead? If I die, he not only will have my pack to worry about but my allies, the Quartzite and Rhyolite packs as well.”

Nikita sat straighter and took a deep breath. “It’s because of your chosen… She was his cousin. He is angry that you took her as a chosen and then allowed her to die. He now wants you to die just like she did.”

I stood and went to the big window. It all came back to Kalila. My decision to take her as my chosen affected not only me but others as well. Not one person from her pack was alive anymore. I slammed my fist against the glass, it shook but didn’t crack.

“I’m sorry. I won’t blame you if you want me gone. Just tell me what you want to do. If you don’t want me here, I’ll leave and we can reject each other. Or you can take my life after we reject each other. I should’ve told you as soon as we got to your pack. But…” I turned to face her, tears were pooling in her eyes and threatening to fall. “I was scared. Enyo was begging me to tell you.”

“That is why you wanted to reject me in the woods at your pack. Because he had already told you what he wanted you to do. Why didn’t you kill me then?”

“Because he didn’t want the death to be connected with his pack. Even if it was me doing it. Deep down I think he would’ve killed me after I had killed you. So that he could make an example of me.” The tears were falling down her beautiful face now as she held my eyes with hers. My heart constricted in my chest at the sorrow in her voice and on her face.

I couldn’t let her go. She was my mate, my fated mate at that. I went up to her and brought her to stand in front of me. Taking her face in my hands, I brought it up to mine. Nikita made no move to fight me. I could snap her neck right here and that was probably what she was thinking I was about to do. She was limp in my hands waiting for death to come.

The kiss I pressed to her lips shocked her. I could feel it in our bond as she relaxed even more and kissed me back.

Mark her. She wants you to, don’t let her reject us.Aloysius told me in my head as I lifted her in my arms and she wrapped her legs around my hips as I took her to our room.

This was going to be a new start, and I was going to mark her. I placed her on the bed, her hair all around her as I took a moment to take her in. Stripping my shirt over my head, I let it fall to the ground as I covered her.

“I’m going to mark you.” I told her as I allowed my hands to wrap in her hair.

“Okay,” Enyo’s voice laced with Nikita’s as she answered me.

My canines ripped so fast through my gums I could feel the blood pooling in my mouth. Enyo had come to the surface as well, her eyes glowing as they stared back at me. Shredding her shirt, I sunk my fangs at the base of her neck where my mark would sit. Nikita’s body arched into mine at the connection.
