Bringing her closer to my body, I looked around trying to find the Doc. He needed to get here. If he didn’t, there would be no more Dolostone. I would renounce my alpha status and find the person who had done this to my mate and I would torture them slowly. Why did she do this! What was the Moon Goddess’ plan for this?

Doc pushed through the crowd of wolves and kneeled beside Nikita as she labored to breathe. Aloysius was pacing in my head as I stared at my mate, struggling. I tried not to hold her as close to me so that Doc could examine her.

Fin. Why is everything so hot? Everything hurts.Even her voice in my mind was weaker. Something was wrong. I needed her to survive!

Don’t worry, feisty wolf. You need to stop talking. Doc will figure it out.

“Alpha, we need to get her over to the pack hospital. I believe she has been poisoned.” The worry on his face and voice unnerved me. He never acted like this. He was always very calm and poised.

Nodding, I scooped her up in my arms and ran after him to the pack hospital. The whimpers coming from her constricted my heart even more. And made me nauseated as I ran to the building. The sounds of our feet reverberated against the tile floor. Wolves stared at me as I raced down the halls.

Doc ran into a room and other nurses were already in there waiting with bags of what looked like water but smelled like salt. And something else I couldn’t quite put my finger on. Laying her down on the bed, they started to work on her and basically pushed me out of the way.

Nikita’s skin flamed red as they stuck needles in her arms, connecting her to the bags already hanging on the IV poles. I stood there, not knowing what to do. Doc was doing a more extensive exam on her and it took everything in me to keep from sliding down the wall and crying. Why did this have to happen?

The creaking of the door startled me awake and brought me to my feet. A growl ripped through me before I realized who it was coming in. Harlen stopped and brought up his hands. I glanced over to Nikita; she was still sleeping from the meds.

Doc had told me that she had been poisoned. The only one that I could think of that would do something like that would be her old Alpha. But I didn’t notice him near her. His mate was and if she was in on this too, I would kill her as well.

“How is Luna Nikita doing?”

“She’s sleeping right now. Doc says she will be fine. But we haven’t figured out what the poison is. I do think I know who did it. We are no longer allied with the Shonokite pack.” I glared over at my beta as he came to the other side of Nikita’s bed. I finally noticed the gift that he had under his arm.

“That is fine by me. But Bella has made the Luna this, and I was told not to come back with it.” Harlen placed the blanket over the other blanket she was under. The crest of our pack and Luna stitched into it.

“We both know when Bella says something you do it.” I laughed as the expression on Harlen’s face gave me ‘the don’t I know it’ look.

“Has everyone been questioned and searched? Who all is left?” I glanced back at Nikita as I waited for Harlen’s answer.

“No one that was still at the pack house had poison on them and they were all questioned. A few are pissed but the others were fine. They understood.” Harlen answered me. I knew some would have a problem but I didn’t care. I was going to find out who did this.

“Okay, thanks Harlen. I’m going to be here with Nikita until she wakes up.” I glanced back over to him just as he stood. I walked him to the door and opened it.

Harlen nodded and then left me with Nikita. He and Bella had kept the other wolves away from this room. We had decided not to tell the pack anything until she was awake. Just in case something went wrong.

Nikita tossed and turned on the bed. I went back over to her and took her hand. She stilled as soon as my hand slid into hers. Bringing it up to my lips, I placed a kiss on each finger before ending at the back of her hand.

She is calm in her mind when we hold her hand.Aloysius chimed in. For him to be this calm himself made me think she would make it.

I know. I just wish Doc would stop giving her whatever is keeping her asleep. I need to see those eyes.

She needs to heal. Her wolf is also needing to heal.Aloysius answered me.By the way, do you think you could eat something? I mean, if I’m starving, I know you are.

I chuckled at him. It had only been twelve hours since Nikita had been brought to the hospital. But if food was going to keep him off my back. Then food is what I would get him. I kiss Nikita’s forehead and head out the door to find Doc.

Doc stood beside the nurse counter as I came up to him. The she-wolf that sat in front of him glanced up at me and then bowed her head. Doc turned and inclined his head before speaking to me, “Alpha, is everything okay?”

“Everything is fine. I was just going to get something to eat. Can you mindlink me if Nikita wakes?”

“Of course Alpha. We can get you something to eat if you want to stay with her. But I’m sure the rest of the pack would like to see you as well.”

I had thought about it. The pack had been worried about us. Their worry laced the packlink like a black cloud. It would be good for me to join them tonight. To hopefully put it to rest even though she still had yet to wake.

“I’ll go get my own food. Thank you for the offer, but the worry from the rest of the pack through the packlink is something I need to address.” I placed a hand on his shoulder before walking down the white hall. It hurt to leave her because I wanted to be there when she woke. But I also needed to but this worry to rest.

As I strolled out of the sliding glass doors of the hospital, I spotted most of the pack on the steps. Candles in their hands. My heart clinched at the sight of all the wolves either standing or sitting here with me. I hadn’t even thought of what to say to them. Considering that, I thought I had more time to think everything out.

“Dolostone. It is late, you should go home and rest. Luna Nikita is resting. Doc is sure that she will be fine.”
