“That is a relief, Alpha. But what are we going to do about whoever did this? We can’t let them get away with this.” Bailey’s voice rang out over the rumble that followed. He had been in the pack since I was a young pup. He was a badass warrior and didn’t mind showing the younger ones he still had it.

“This is true. And I have a hunch about who did it, but I’m not yet sure if it was. We will have to be on guard. I will not put it past them to send warriors to our borders.” I answered him as I swept over the crowd. Each one nodded as they sat their candles on the steps to the side.

Two warrior wolves stayed on the steps. Their heads bowed, but their chests were out. I knew that stance. “Blake, Conner, what are you doing?”

“We will stand here to guard the hospital in your stead, Alpha.” Their unison voices answered me.

This was the reason I appreciated my pack. These guys right here.

Chapter Twenty-Nine

Nikita

The pain that had raced through my system was unbearable, even for me. Only the comfort of my mate allowed the pain to go away. I had been poisoned before with this type, but it had been smaller doses. That was probably why I was able to stay up for as long as I had.

But that also meant that I knew who the person was that had poisoned me. Once I was up and moving around, I was going to rip them limb from limb. They will feel my wrath.

Yes, any wolf that has helped with this. Will meet the Moon Goddess sooner rather than later!Enyo growled weakly in my mind. But her eyes glowed with the ferocity that I knew that she had.

I felt Fin’s presence leave, and the pain didn’t shoot through my system. Whatever they were pushing through my veins was working. It made me sad that Fin left but he would only have done that if it was something important. He still had a pack to run and just because I was sick didn’t change that.

You know he won’t leave you for too long. He went years without you; I doubt he will be more than a few minutes.

Someone’s hand, calloused yet soft, slipped into mine. But it wasn’t Fin’s because I was under whatever meds that Doc was giving me. I couldn’t tell who it was. It didn’t calm me as much as Fin’s touch did, but it helped.

I could start to hear the soft humming. The sound was like what my mother used to sing to me when I was just a pup. Did every mother know this song? The squeak of the door was louder than the woman humming. Could I be getting my hearing back?

“Bella, what are you doing?” It was Fin! I would know that deep baritone anywhere.

“I came to keep her company while you grabbed something to eat.” Bella’s voice came from my left side. Oh, how I missed her sweet voice.

“Thank you. Has anything changed since I was gone?” Fin’s hand slipped into mine and I felt the sparks race up my arm. Goddess, I love when his skin touches mine.

“No, Luna is still sleeping.”

Fin sighed and placed his lips on the back of my hand. I needed to wake up. The sadness in his aura made me uncomfortable. He wasn’t supposed to be like this.

“Fin, Luna Nikita is a fighter. I don’t think anything could bring her down. As small as she is, she has a heart of an Alpha.”

Bella really did like me! When I first got here, I thought she was just being cordial. But she had never spoken ill to me or changed her demeanor toward me. After Jade had said what she said.

“Did you see the candles the pack left on the steps of the hospital?”

“Yes, Alpha. You know the pack would never want to see you lose your fated. She has changed you in a way, and she has made you stronger. Along with this pack.” The squeaking of the chair sounded up to me.

I tried to move my fingers, but they wouldn’t budge. How long was this going to take to get everything back? This made me vulnerable, and I didn’t like it. It wasn’t that I didn’t think Fin could protect me. But what about when he would go get something to eat?

“Did you station Blake and Conner at her door?” Bella asked with concern in her voice.

“No, they volunteered. I’m hoping that I can find the right person who did this to her. Aloysius has been wanting to go to that pack and trash it. But it’s her home pack and I don’t want to make her hurt more.” Fin rubbed my hand over his cheek. I just wanted to reach out with my fingers and touch him. To let him know that I was okay.

“They are great boys.”

Enyo, I need you to help me. Can you not talk with Aloysius?

I can. But only sometimes.

Okay, well, I need you to help me move my fingers.
