We won’t talk about that. Your uncle made this place a looney bin, that was for sure. I worried a lot about the pups those ten years. I tried to get the mothers to go to Bella’s pack but they didn’t want to leave their mates.

Things wolves do for their mates. I would kill someone if they tried to hurt Nikita.

I don’t think you have too much to worry about. Nikita could take care of herself, but I wouldn’t put it past some of the warriors to stand beside her as well.

I chuckled. That was true. Most of the warriors that had been watching her train with me would love to fight with her in battle. She was the most amazing thing to watch as she sent blow after blow into her opponent. Hell, I had to start deflecting her punches.

We need to find out what is going on over at that pack otherwise we are going to have a war that shouldn’t have ever been started.

Harlen nodded his head as I went into the ice cream shop. I had figured out that Nikita, for all her boldness, loved vanilla bean ice cream.

“Harlen, I think we need to go back to the old Obsidian pack and see if there is anything that we have missed. I can’t believe that the alpha there would allow everything in that pack to burn without putting what was needed in that safe room.” The bell for the shop rang alerting everyone in the small room that someone else had entered. I went up to the counter to the greying red-headed woman and looked at all the other flavors. “Joan, can you get me a half-gallon of the vanilla bean and then another half-gallon of the peanut butter chocolate?”

“Of course alpha.” She smiled and turned to grab her needed items. I was so ready to have this thing in my stomach.

“When are you wanting to go?” Harlen ordered a pint of Tobey’s favorite flavor as he waited with me in the store.

“I think we need to go soon. I do believe that Nikita will have that book read by the end of this week if not sooner. But I do believe we need to handle the other thing as well.” I nodded to Joan and smiled as she gave me my purchase and Harlen grabbed his.

“Yes, are you wanting to send another wolf there to see if we can find the other?”

“No, I was thinking of doing some recon myself. It’s about time that I do something useful in this pack other than shouting out orders.” I chuckled with Harlen as we headed back up to the packhouse. The wind was biting cold as we traversed the sidewalk. Trying to stay out of the wind as much as we could.

When I went to the pack what was I thinking about getting into these things when I had others to do this type of work? Another thing was what was I going to tell Nikita about my absence?

She wasn’t just like any other female. She was an alpha born female. Last living heir to the Obsidian pack that was no more. I just hoped that with everything going she would be able to keep her cool and wits about her.

Chapter Thirty-Nine

Fin

Ihad left early this morning to get to the Shonkinite pack before anyone was up. Nikita would probably be pissed at me for leaving her in bed but I was sure that her scent was changing and I wasn’t going to have her shifting with me to come on this. When I knew that things could go wrong and that she could get hurt.

Aloysius ran silently despite his massive size. It had snowed this morning so it camouflaged me better than in the summer. I was hoping that getting closer to the pack that I would be able to find my informant. Along with the other scent that was bringing the poisoned bodies into my pack.

Slowing down at the edge of my territory I brought my nose up as the wind brought the scent of the other pack to me. Since I had been here last it had changed. But it could also be that the smell that made this pack appealing was now sleeping or cursing my name.

The sound of disappearing paws told me that I had just missed the patrol wolves. If they had been mine they wouldn’t be running side by side. That way they would be able to catch something that would be trying to sneak in. Which bothered me with how many bodies had gotten through unnoticed.

Was one of my pack members part of this?

I went forward onto the territory slowly making my way further into the middle of the pack. I couldn’t bring myself to think that one of my own was trying to betray me. Because if they did then that would mean that they had always been loyal to someone other than me. My uncle? Possible. Could they be trying to start a war that would almost decimate the pack?

We will need to talk with the patrols. Something is fishy about bodies getting on to our land.Aloysius commented as I made our way even further in the pack.

Yes, Someone is in on this. Maybe I shouldn’t have left Nikita by herself.

Our feisty Luna will be fine. She is of Alpha blood. He was right, but with her scent changing I wonder if she even knew that she was pregnant.

A scent caught my attention. One that had been detected on my territory. I had never been one to not remember a smell. This wolf had to be the one coming onto my territory and bringing the dead. Loping through the brush I made my way to the smell. I needed to know who it was that was doing this to my pack.

While I followed the scent a sharp snap brought my attention to my left. I jumped in time to keep the brown wolf from tossing me into a tree. Turning on the wolf snarling and baring my teeth. I can’t let him tell the others that I’m here. If he does then Alpha Roy will either kill me and take my pack or put me in a dungeon.

The wolf lunged at me. We met in the middle, my teeth sinking into the wolf’s shoulder and took a chunk of it’s muscle with me as I tore it away from the bone. The scream from the wolf excited me. It had been a long time since I fought with another wolf. Actually fought. Falling to the ground it continued to scream, I lunged forward resting my fangs in his throat.

Silencing him forever.

Hundreds of paws thundered behind me and I stood facing them. Alpha Roy standing in the front his murderous gaze on me. Maybe I shouldn’t have fought with the brown wolf. I should have known that he would have mind linked his alpha. Now he is going to think that I was the one that was killing his pack mates.
