Hearing him talk like this. Made my heart hurt for him, to ask someone for help and nothing. No wonder he was killing people off in that pack. But the fact that he put them on my pack was unnerving. The other question was did he poison his own daughter? “Cain, did you poison Nikita at her Luna ceremony?”

“No! I’d never do that to my own daughter. I overheard the other alpha and another wolf talking about it before she had her ceremony. I wanted to keep her from getting hurt but they did it anyway. I didn’t know if she was going to live. So I began poisoning his pack.”

Chapter Forty-Six

Nikita

Istood there on the stairs as Fin led my father to his death. My father was already too far gone to help him. He had been without his mate and family for a long time. I didn’t know exactly how Fin was going to dispatch him, but I couldn’t just sit in our room. This was going to be the last time I saw my father. I didn’t know if I was relieved or sad.

As I watched him and the warriors take him toward the pack hospital, I realized that he was going to let him go easily. Shonkinite pack’s beta was meeting with us later, since they no longer had an alpha or an heir. There were two ways to do this: they could make their beta alpha or they could merge into our pack but still live where they are at. Then again, they could also move into the pack town on our territory and we demolish those on the other territory so that we can use that one for something different.

But that would be decided later. Now we were handling the issue of my dad. I didn’t even get to know him, to learn from him like any other pup would from their father. It’s crazy how my life would have been different if he had just returned to the Dolostone pack or even went to my mother’s sister’s pack. The sound of footsteps brought my attention to behind me.

Bella came up to my side and pulled me close to her. She had been the closest thing to a mother I had ever experienced. Tobey and Sydnie were lucky to have that type of mother. I mean I had a mother but she didn’t give me as much attention as I thought a pup should have. I mean hell once I started to get older and started my training she wasn’t any more attentive than she was when I was younger. Which was probably the reason I pushed myself to become the best.

“I know that you didn’t have many people as far as family. But we are here for you and Dolostone is your family now. And was supposed to be when you got your wolf.” Bella held my gaze, while we stood there.

“I know and thank you for making me feel like I belong.” I smiled at her as the warriors and my mate disappeared with my father.

“Let us go inside and prepare for the Shonkinite wolves to get here. I know it’s going to be hard for them to decide on what to do.” I nodded and turned on my heel with Bella and headed into the packhouse. This wasn’t a time to think about the pending death of him. The man that thought that he was doing what was right. When he was most definitely doing the wrong thing.

Other wolves were already cleaning and getting things ready. The only reason we were here was to make sure that it all went the right way. Not like I didn’t trust them because I trusted these wolves with my life.

“Bella, other than my father have you seen someone that did this?” I stopped us just inside the foyer. My pup inside of me was flipping and rolling around in my stomach. The happiness that he brought me was something I couldn’t deny.

“Only one other time but he was already evil and it didn’t mess with him like it did with your father. He was also able to keep it hidden for a very long time. Until he took this pack from Fin.” Bella answered me.

Of course it was him. Fin’s uncle. I never would have thought that he had a mate. But the Moon Goddess wouldn’t keep a mate from someone. Everyone was equal in her eyes. Some just had to wait longer than others. Like Fin and I. “Fin’s uncle is the wolf that you are talking about.”

“Yes, Harlen told me that he saw it more, the madness, after he took over here. Which was why he didn’t think about the wolves here or the packs he conquered. Harlen was trying to keep as many of the wolves from dying but it didn’t always work.”

“I can’t believe this. Does Fin know?” I glanced over to her. There was no way that he knew that his uncle was like this.

“No, but I’m sure Harlen will tell him. It’s been known that mates will do that. But it’s so rare.” She shook her head as one of the omegas that had been running with the towels tripped. Bella headed over and helped her pick them up.

Maybe that’s why Fin didn’t go through that when he lost his chosen. I wonder if the reason my father was so insane was because he had literally lost his entire family. He didn’t know that I was alive and okay. So he could only assume that I was gone as well. This man watched another alpha take his mate and his heir from him in a blink of an eye.

Fin sat at the head of the table with my chair beside him. Harlen sat to his right and two Deltas sat to his left. My old beta sat at the other end with two of their warriors. The beta looked tired so I didn’t blame him. It was hard running a pack. I didn’t know how Fin had done it for as long as he had.

But I guess when you are trained to lead a pack from a young age. You can handle almost anything and Fin was most definitely able to handle it.

“Beta Nathaniel, what have you decided?” Fin’s question brought Nathaniel’s eyes to him they looked dim.

“Alpha Fin I believe that it would be better for my pack to integrate them into yours. I know that you have a beta and if I have to go rogue I will.” He was resigned to do what he needed to ensure that the Shonkinite pack had a place to be.

Fin sat forward and stared at the beta before him and he rapped his fingers on the wooden table. My heart was breaking for my former pack. Even though they were not my birth pack as I originally thought, they still were the ones I grew up with. “You do not have to go rogue. I’d be happy if you accepted the position of Gamma.”

“Of course I would gladly take the position.” Beta Nathaniel didn’t even hesitate to take it.

Fin nodded and sat back in his chair. I didn’t think that this would be settled this easily but with the way Nathaniel looked and acted it seemed like he was ready to hand over the reins. I couldn’t blame him. Even only helping with some pack things with Fin I knew what it was like.

“Good, we will start making preparations with the move. I’ll go over to the territory with you in a couple of weeks to give them time to pack up everything. We will bring trucks over to bring their stuff over to this part. There will be homes available to them. Any unmated wolves that are old enough can move in with the others here that are unmated. Patrol is not an option and since we are expanding the size there will be more of need for wolves to patrol.” Fin stood from his chair and glanced between Nathaniel and the two warriors. They both nodded and Nathaniel bowed his head. He had always been one to heed what his superiors have told him. “You and the warriors are welcome to stay the night and head back in the morning. Since you would be taking over the Gamma position you will be over the Deltas and warriors.”

“Of course Alpha Fin. Thank you again. I’m sorry Luna Nikita for what had happened to your real family.” Nathaniel glanced over to me and I nodded my head. I didn’t need him to apologize for something he didn’t have anything to do with.

“Harlen, can you show them where they can stay please?” Harlen stood up and motioned for the three male wolves to follow him.

I watched as the four wolves went out the door and our deltas followed them out. Leaving only me and Fin in the room. Since arriving here I had never been in this room. It was a beautiful room even if the most important decisions and discussions were made in this room.
