“How’s our little boy today?” Fin turned to me and pulled me close.
“He’s been moving like crazy all morning. Now he’s not moving as much.” I rubbed my hand over my swollen belly, brushing it along his as I did.
“He’s tired himself out.”
“Maybe, but Bella says that when they stop moving as much it’s almost time.” I chuckled as Fin’s hands came up to cup my face.
“Then he will be here soon. You are going to be a wonderful mother.” The deep and husky tone in Fin’s voice caused goosebumps to race down my body.
“You don’t know that. I’ve never had a family that really treated me like their own. What do I know about parenting?” I sighed as Fin continued to hold my gaze. He was always so confident about things. I was too but not this. This was something I couldn’t figure out.
“You have me here to help you. Bella and the rest of the pack are here too. We won’t let you fail, I promise you that.”
My heart clenched at his words. How could he be like this after everything that he had been through? My mate had a heart of gold even if he didn’t always show it to others. But he loved his pack there was no doubt about that.
“Thank you. I never thought I’d have anything like this.”
“Well you will always have it now.”
I woke up to the most goddess awful pain. Fin’s side of the bed had already gotten cold letting me know that he was already out and about in the pack. Enyo was laying down with her head on her paws, her tail slowly sweeping back and forth.
Getting up I went to the bathroom since the pup was on my bladder. At one point I didn’t think I would make it. Between getting up and waddling over to the toilet the pain became worse. I sat on the cold porcelain seat and let go.
The gush that came after startled me and the pain after that got worse.
FIN!
Nikita, are you okay?The worry that laced Fin’s tone brough it through the bond. He was scared.
No, I need you here! Like now!I begged him through another bout of pain, I needed him with me now. I needed his calm exterior to ground me.
I’m on my way. Bella will be there in a few moments.There was nothing more that I could do but wait on them. I didn’t know how far he was away from the packhouse.
When the door burst open and Bella was staring at me I felt relieved. I wasn’t going to be alone with this. That’s when the next crumpling pain hit. I didn’t know how much longer I was going to be able to handle this.
“Nikita, I know that you are hurting right now. And I can help you until Fin gets here but I need you to get up from that toilet. We need to get on the bed.” Bella moved forward and helped me to a standing position.
My knees felt like jelly and I didn’t know if I was going to be able to stay on my feet long. Bella wrapped her arm around my waist and then put mine over her shoulder. She guided me to the bed. Fuck why did this have to hurt so bad? I normally was able to handle any pain I was dealt. But this made me feel like I was weak.
“Lay back, Fin will be here soon and I believe Doc will be here too.”
Chapter Forty-Seven
Fin
Imade it to the pack house in record time from the edge of the territory. Something was wrong with Nikita and when she called me like that through the mate link. All I could think about was when Kalila did the same thing.
The first person I mindlinked after talking with Nikita was Bella. She was already in the packhouse and she would be able to get to her quickly. Doc was next on my list because it was close to her having our pup and I wanted him there. I had never heard the anguish in her voice like that.
Not bothering to shift back to my human form, I burst through the main door of the packhouse. Causing screams from the omegas that were in the foyer and making some of the guards come out of the kitchen that were heading to bed. When they realized that it was me they backed down.
Doc was taking the stairs two at a time and I ran up to him grabbing him by the shirt. Jumping the rest of the landings to get to the fourth floor. I placed Doc down at the door and he opened it while I shifted back to my human form. The ones in this room had seen me plenty of times in the nude. Besides we were a wolf pack it was normal.
I followed Doc into my bedroom and could hear Nikita groaning just before Doc threw open the doors. Bella was at her side holding her hand and wiping her forehead. Doc sat everything down beside Bella and she looked up at me.
She’s in labor and it’s progressing fast.Bella’s tone in our mindlink was hurried and out of breath.
How close is she?I questioned her as I stood there trying to get my bearings.
