Myfatherknockedlightlyon the bedroom door, leaning against the frame.“You okay, Sport? You’ve been down since camp.”

I glanced at my dad, not entirely sure he deserved an explanation for why I was down.“I miss it.”

A big smile spread across his face.“So you did enjoy it?”

“Yeah.”I sighed.“But don’t worry, it didn’t make a man out of me.Still gay.”

My dad blinked.“That wasn’t what I meant.”He stepped forward and sat gingerly on the edge of my bed.“I know you’re gay, Jay.It’s okay. That’s how your built, right?”

“But you… when I came out…” I swallowed, blinking back tears.

“I’m sorry.I know I treated that wrong.Believe me, your mother has given me some stern lectures.”He smiled wryly.“But that wasn’t why I wanted you to do the camp counselor thing.I just wanted to get you out of your comfort zone.Gay guys enjoy camping, right?”

“So why all the ‘real man’ talk?”

He cringed.“I suppose I chose the wrong words there, too.You know me, always putting my foot in it.I was just worried we no longer have anything in common, you know?”

“I still love you, Dad.Even if you have stupid hobbies.”

He laughed, shaking his head.“I thought you enjoyed camp? You miss it!”

“I met someone there, and I miss him,” I said, glancing at my phone.“I’m waiting for his text now.”

“Ah,” my father looked a little uncomfortable again.“Tell me about him?”

“His name is Aiden, and he’s… I don’t know. You’d like him.He loves all the stuff you like. He’s a really great guy.”

“I’d love to meet him.But he hasn’t texted you?”

“In six hours,” I said, looking back down at the phone.

“Sweetheart, he’s probably just sleeping in,” my dad said, chuckling softly.“Well, I’ll leave you to it.I think I have to go share this news with your mother, and gloat about how I handled it well.”He stood and walked out of the room, then paused in the doorway.“I handled it well, right?”

“Yeah,” I said, feeling warm all over.I picked up my phone and stared at it for a moment.Maybe he was just sleeping in.

Still, six hours and no texts from Aiden.Logically, I understood that six hours really wasn’t something to lose my mind over, but I missed him like crazy, and those texts were my lifeline, my anchor. He was probably doing something with his family, or on a hike in the wilderness.Or, like my dad said, sleeping in.Still, I checked my phone again.

Summer camp had ended too quickly.A goodbye party for session 3, a day of packing up, and just like that, I was in the airport, caught in a fierce goodbye kiss with Aiden.I couldn’t possibly have kissed him enough to cure the ache in my heart, but at that point, I’d been determined to stockpile kisses, to memorize his mouth.

I’d sucked his cock in an airport bathroom, desperate to take his taste home with me.It hadn’t lasted long. But the memory of the way he’d groaned my name as he came still echoed in my ears.

Everything since then had felt strange and disorienting, like I wasn’t quite where I belonged.Perhaps, after so much time spent in the quiet of nature, my regular life was too much.Or perhaps the problem was Aiden, that missing him was like missing a part of me, like someone had cut off one of my arms and told me to do without it for a few weeks.

And I wasn’t sleeping, so every day, my mind felt more foggy. But today was worst of all, because he usually texted me first thing in the morning, and today, he hadn’t.

“Jay!Someone’s at the door for you!”my mom called out from downstairs.I frowned, wondering who it could be, and trudged down the stairs, still staring at my blank phone screen, still clad in my pajamas.

A throat cleared, and I looked up, feeling confused.Aiden was in our foyer, grinning broadly, his eyes sparkling with mischief.I couldn’t believe it; it was as if the daydream I’d been comforting myself with had come to life.He seemed out of place in my family home.

“Are you really here?”I asked, slightly afraid I’d hallucinated him.He threw back his head and laughed.

“Of course.Surprise!”he exclaimed, opening his arms wide for a hug.Without hesitation, I launched myself at him, feeling his strong arms wrap around me, engulfing me in warmth and security. His mouth clashed against mine, as hungry and desperate as I felt, but then, somewhere, a throat cleared, and I remembered my mom was standing right there.I dropped my legs and looked up at him, cupping his face.

“What are you doing here?”I gasped, laughing with delight.

“Got some news I wanted to share with you in person,” Aiden replied, winking at me.

“Ahem.”A deep voice behind us startled me, and I turned to find Aiden’s grandfather standing in the doorway a stern expression on his face.
