Epilogue - Jay

EighteenMonthsLater

“Can you get my phone?”Aiden asked, looking up from his laptop.“I can’t get this spreadsheet to save and I’m afraid of losing my work.”

I frowned, tilting my head. His ringtone was coming from somewhere, but I couldn’t tell where.I sorted around in the sofa cushions. After a year and a half of living with Aiden, I was used to hunting for things he’d misplaced. It was one of his quirks.“Are you expecting an important call?”

“My grandfather is supposed to be visiting this weekend,” he said.I finally located the phone on the coffee table under a pile of biology books.

I was an instant too late, swiping the phone open just as the person hung up.I typed in his code, checking for a message, right as Aiden looked up.

“Oh, shit, don’t look at that!”His eyes widened, and he lunged for the phone.

My heart stopped, and I glanced down at the phone, wondering what exactly could cause that level of panic. He usually wasn’t secretive about his phone. If anything, he told me to look at things on it a little too often.I’d accidentally found out his surprise for my last birthday that way.

But his phone was open to a list app, and the list made no sense.

“Surfaces in the house?Baby, why do you have a checklist of surfaces in the house?”

Aiden’s cheeks turned pink, and he shoved his hands in his pockets.“Because I told you when you moved in with me…”

“That you’d fuck me on every surface of this house.Holy shit, that’s why you lifted me off one stool at the breakfast bar and moved me to the other one last night?”I burst out laughing as I scrolled down to find that all three of the stools were now checked.

He grinned, ducking his chin.“Just got the guest bathroom left.I fucked you over the counter a few weeks ago but haven’t worked out a reason to be in that shower. Was waiting for a plumbing emergency.”

“But why the panic?”I asked. His blush deepened and he looked at the wall, studying it as if it was fascinating.“This is funny, but it’s not something to panic about.”

“Um, I thought something else was open.”

“Like what?Porn?I know you like watching hetero porn sometimes. It’s fine. You’re bi.”

“No…” His eyes darted back down to the phone.

“You’d better not be fucking around on me.I’m a very possessive gay,” I said, narrowing my eyes at him.

He smiled, his eyes warm.“Honey, I wouldn’t do that.I love you.”His gaze darted back down to the phone and widened.I read what was on the screen.

It was a pro and con list.“Marry now versus marry after we graduate?”I whispered.“A pro and con list. You didn’t want me to see this?Is it because it isn’t finished?”

He shook his head, smiling a little.“No.It’s finished. It’s just… I don’t know.I was afraid you’d say we had to wait.So I was trying to think of better arguments to win you over.”

I smirked.“So under marry later, you have ‘people keep telling us we’re too young.’That’s all?”

He shrugged.“All I could think of.I don’t feel too young.I know it’s you.You’re my person.And I really fucking hope I’m your person, because…”

“Of course you’re my person, Aiden.”I cupped his cheek, and he pressed against my hand, sighing.

“That’s why I didn’t want you to see this yet.I’m not prepared for the emotional aftermath.”He shrugged, combing a hand through his hair.

I chuckled softly and handed him his phone.“Okay.Why don’t you read what you put under ‘marry this summer?’You can leave out anything you don’t want to share.”

He took his phone out of my hand and chewed on his bottom lip for a moment as he studied the list. Then he huffed out a breath.“Okay.One: I get to call you my husband.”

“I like that.”I wasn’t sure why it sounded so good, but on his lips, it sounded more right than anything.
