Silas cleared his throat and leaned forward. “Bowen, one of our pack mates, was able to do a deep dive into some government databases. There is a note, like the doctor referenced. It went out to major hospitals and all doctors who specialize in omega physiology. All the physicians were urged to keep quiet and report directly to Omega Services if they found a situation where a beta-born omega turned up.”

Oakley grimaced, and I knew whatever he would say next wasn’t going to be good. “The original note came from a laboratory near Richmond and was signed off on by a Dr. Julian Anders.”

Crew stiffened. “Anders as in?—”

“—the President’s cousin,” Silas confirmed. “The company is called Infinity Solutions. Its mission statement claims they are working to find vaccines and chronic illness treatments, but when Bowen went to check it out, he was hit with more firewalls than the CIA has.”

“If it’s medical research, then that would make sense, right?” Jude asked. “They’re the ones who found the cure for Variant O.”

“Maybe,” Silas conceded, “but it raised some red flags for Bowen. He’s planning to keep digging, but something’s not adding up. He has to be careful not to set off any alarms.”

I leaned against Kellan. “What do you think is going on?”

“It’s too soon to tell,” Silas replied, his gaze cutting to Crew, “but your dad is still in R&D, right? Might be time to loop him in. See if he’s heard anything about Infinity working on something that could impact omegas.”

“Already planned on it,” Crew said.

“Bowen’s also working to get access to the list of beta-born omegas that Omega Services has found packs for. Maybe there’s something to connect them,” Oakley added, giving me a reluctant smile. “Or it might just be Mother Nature taking her shot at balancing the designations, and we’ve read too many conspiracy theories.”

“Maybe,” I whispered, not convinced.

My life had been a series of unfortunate twists, and other than finding my pack, I wasn’t ready to rule out anything dubious or nefarious.

Calla kept reiterating that I should trust my instincts, and right now, my gut was telling me something was off. Way freaking off.

I rubbed my sternum, feeling like fire ants were crawling over my skin.

Kellan reacted by tucking me under his chin. “What’s wrong?” He kept his voice low and private.

I just shook my head, not sure I was ready to admit how unsettled this whole conversation had made me. Without realizing I was doing it, I pushed one foot under Crew’s legs and reached a hand back for Jude to take.

Crew’s hand wrapped around my ankle as Jude threaded his fingers with mine. On Jude’s other side, Rhett covered both our hands with his.

Oakley and Silas exchanged baffled looks.

“What?” Kellan all but growled.

“Seems like you’re all pretty content,” Silas replied. “Makes me wonder why Omega Services sent out Hazel’s profile to a bunch of alpha packs this morning. My brother’s pack received info about her, and asked me if I knew her since her address is listed as the Billings’s OS office.”

“What the fuck did you just say?” Crew demanded, his tone the first indication that something was wrong.

Rhett swore softly. “Looks like OS is being more proactive than we thought.”

“Do you have the email?” Jude asked.

“Uh, yeah.” Silas fumbled for his phone. “Simon sent it a few hours ago.” He passed the phone over to Rhett.

I craned my head to see it, and my stomach swooped when I saw the picture was one the hospital had taken. Pictures they assured me were only being used to memorialize my injuries.

But this photo was a headshot of me, hiding the majority of my bruises. It didn’t show more than my bare shoulders, face, and hair, but it might’ve just as well been a full frontal nude shot from the way my alphas reacted.

“Can they do this?” I gasped.

“They already did,” Crew said darkly, his tone sending chills across my flesh. “Motherfuckers.”

Kellan pressed his nose to my neck and took deep breaths. I knew my most volatile alpha was probably struggling, perceiving this as a threat to all of us. A soft purr started in my chest as I felt the level of anger jump from one to a thousand.

Rhett’s fingers trembled as he passed the phone back. “I need to call my father again.”
