“You can do that?” I asked with a frown. Pack bonds were all new to me. The amount of stuff I didn’t know was overwhelming. Four years suddenly seemed like decades.

Kellan didn’t wait for an invitation as he came to the side of my bed and sat down, bracing one hand on the other side of my legs. “Crew can do that since he’s the boss.” He shot me a wink. “How’s it going, sugar?”

I opened my mouth, but I didn’t know what to say. The stupid urge to cry slammed into me, and I tried to blink away the tears.

“Ah, fuck.” Kellan moved fast. He gently pushed me out of the middle of the bed and climbed in beside me. When he wrapped an arm around my shoulders, I didn’t hesitate to bury my head against his chest. The heat of his skin soaked into me as he managed to pull my blanket around us both.

Crew glared at him. “She needs rest.”

“She needs her alphas,” Kellan countered. “What the fuck were you doing before I got in here?”

“Trying to go over shit before someone fucks up and they find out we don’t actually have a claim to her,” Crew retorted, folding his arms across his wide chest and testing the material of his shirt. It stretched around his muscles, and I wondered how it didn’t rip apart.

A low pulse settled between my thighs as I studied him. The wide set of his legs that were thick enough to be tree trunks. The way he owned the room, exuding absolute confidence. The annoyed set of his hard jaw.

Kellan inhaled sharply, stiffening beside me. “Sugar…”

I looked up at him, feeling lightheaded as a flush stole up my neck.

“Shit,” Kellan breathed, his pupils blown wide. He leaned in toward me, licking his lips as his gaze darted to my mouth. The scent of peppermint saturated the room, mingling with mine until it smelled like Christmas had exploded in the room.

“Fuck,” Crew hissed. “Kell, stop.”

I froze at the bark in his tone, but Kellan gave a soft, animalistic growl that sent goosebumps flaring across my skin.

“Fuck off, Crew,” Kellan rumbled, never taking his eyes off me.

“I mean it,” Crew ground out. “Do. Not. Touch. Her.”

Kellan’s head snapped around, his lips pulling back in a snarl. “I swear to fuck, Crew?—”

Crew’s hands slammed down on the footrest of my bed hard enough to jolt the entire frame. I let out a shocked cry.

“You can’t touch her right now, Kell.” Crew’s steely gaze bore into Kellan with enough fire it was a miracle Kellan didn’t burst into flames. “Get ahold of yourself.”

The heat that had been churning in my veins, roiling in my chest, vanished as fast as it had happened. Icy fear took its place as I realized I was between two massive alphas.

Two massive, very pissed off, alphas.

They looked seconds from tearing into each other.

“Kellan!” Crew’s roar ripped through the space.

I trembled at the sound, but it seemed to snap Kellan out of whatever state he’d been in.

He jerked beside me and blinked once. Twice. “Shit. Fuck. I’m sorry, bro.” He turned to me. “Hazel?—”

“What the hell just happened?” I croaked, looking back and forth between them.

Crew sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. “This is why we all need to talk.”

The door pushed open again, and once more, Crew whirled around, prepared to attack whoever was coming through it. At the same time, Kellan moved to shield me with his body.

And they both drew their weapons.

“Holy shit!” an orderly, who looked all of eighteen, squeaked. He froze, arms in the air. His muted beta scent went rank with fear as he gaped at us. “I just… we were told to move the patient in here.” He pointed a trembling finger at the rolling bed behind him.

Crew’s shoulders relaxed. “Sorry about that.”
