“Of course not. Not all bikers are criminals. Well, I guess it really depends on how you want to look at it,” Sloane cut in, and I knew she was referring to the law.

“But if Mike called Trigger,” Catalina explained, “that probably means they’re asking him for some help.”

“Which means they know something.” Savannah rubbed her forehead. “And it also means Cole allowed it.”

“Wow.” Catalina leaned back in her chair. “Who’s next? The Capris,” she joked darkly and looked at me. “It’s a crazy story I’ll leave for another time, but they’re the head of the Italian mob.”

“Geez,” I huffed. They sure had some interesting contacts.

“Word of advice,” Catalina lifted her cards to her face like she was ready to play, “if you ever get the chance to meet Trigger, maybe not mention you know any Stripe Backs.”

“Good to know.” My phone rang, and I saw it was Bronson. Finally. “I’m sorry, ladies, but I have to take this.” I glanced at Sloane to let her know it was about my own situation.

“You’re up, Savi.” Sloane pulled the attention off me.

Cole called me into his office and gave me a crash course on everything I needed to know about how they planned to deal with the situation. Every now and then he’d stop and ask for my input or if I would do anything different. At first, I thought he was trying to understand how my head worked, but I quickly realized that he was drawing from my own experience to see if there was anything he could use to make his plan better.

I really respected the way Cole was as leader. He never used his rank to show he was superior. He made you feel equal and, most of all, heard. I sat back and soaked up the way he did things and what he offered so I could apply it to my team. Now I understood why the Logans had the reputation they did. They were well known in the military as well as outside it. I was damn proud to be part of what they’d built here.

“Logan,” Mike held up a hand and pointed to his phone, “Trig says he’s heard one of the Coppolas has been seen with the Castillos. Do I have your permission to contact Elio?”

“Yes.”

“Copy that.”

“Italian mafia families.” Cole answered my upspoken question. “We’re crossing over into the gray area, Beckett. I hope you’re okay with that.”

“I’ve spent a lot of time in the gray. Don’t worry about where my head is on that.”

“Good.” I could see Cole didn’t like to blur the lines of good and bad, but sometimes you had to do what was necessary. “Let’s call it for now.” He stood and gathered the files on the table. “Until we get something firm, we’re not making a move.”

“I don’t know what kind of magical power Ivy has,” Mark came in and leaned against the table, “but she screwed Keith’s head back on right.”

“Yeah?” Cole looked over at him.

“He’s ready to leave when we are.” I smiled to myself. Ivy had no idea just how good she was at her job. “Girl got some balls, bustin’ into the meeting the way she did.”

“Reminded me of Savi.” Cole chuckled as he turned off the computer monitors.

“Reminds me of all of ’em.” Mark looked at me. “How’s it going with her, anyway? You get a chance to talk to her about that other guy?” I glanced at Cole, unsure how he felt on the topic.

“I’m not blind, Beckett.” Cole made a face. “Just don’t get messy, and we won’t have a problem.”

“Understood.” I looked at Mark. “It’s going.”

“That’s all I get?”

“Yup.” He followed me out of the room.

“Why?”

“Because you’re ruled by the women in this house, and they crack you wide open like a walnut after a few drinks.”

“I’m insulted.”

“No,” Cole rolled his eyes as he looked back at us, “he nailed you.”
