“Good luck with that.”

“Yeah, we can’t all be as lucky as you and have our mate already know about shifters.”

“She knew but didn’t think that they were real,” he reminds me, and I shrug.

“Basically, the same thing.”

He sighs and takes a seat at his desk, shuffling some papers and throwing them on top of a stack on the corner of his desk.

“Good luck tonight,” he says sincerely, and I smile.

“Thanks. I’ll see you later.”

I tug on my jacket and head out to my car. I drove today in case Cameron texted me to get together earlier. Normally, my wolf would be upset that we were riding around in a car instead of being out in nature, but it seems that if it’s for our mate, he doesn’t mind at all.

Maybe we should go home and go for a run before tonight. Burn off some of this energy.

I can already feel some of the mating heat starting to hit me today. I wonder if it will be the same for Cameron. I shouldhave asked Niko more questions about how this all works when your fated mate is a human.

I head home and walk into my cabin. I cleaned up this morning on the off chance that Cameron wants to come home with me. Her scent is still lingering in my living room, and I stand there a moment, breathing deeply.

Yeah, I definitely need to go for a run.

I glance at the clock and see I still have time for a short run before picking Cameron up. I strip in a hurry and then shift as I jump off my front porch, landing on all four paws and taking off as soon as I touch the snow.

I run through the woods surrounding my house, carefully avoiding the hiking trails so that I don’t scare any tourists. My wolf is distracted by thoughts of seeing our mate again, and when I find myself running towards the ski resort, I know it’s time to turn around and head home. I need to get ready for my date.

I run up the front porch steps and shift, walking into my house, grabbing the discarded clothes, and heading for my bedroom. I shower quickly and pull on a dark grey Henley and a pair of jeans. I shove my feet into my boots and grab my coat before I head back out and over to my SUV.

It’s a quarter to five when I pull up outside of the hotel and I send a text to Cameron to let her know that I’m downstairs.

Cameron:Be down in a minute!

I’mglad she doesn’t seem mad about me being fifteen minutes early to pick her up. The truth is that I couldn’t wait any longer to see her, to be near her. I’ve only known this girl for a few days, and I’m obsessed with her already. I want to be with her all of the time. I want to know everything about her.

I hop out of my car and head into the lobby right as the doors open on the elevator and Cameron steps out. She’s wearing another pair of skintight jeans and a loose black sweater. Her breasts still strain against the soft material, and my wolf licks his lips at the sight.

Her red hair is stuffed under her hat, and she grins at me as she heads my way.

“Eager to see me again, huh?” She teases, and I laugh.

“Was it that obvious?”

“Yeah, but I was only ready so soon because I was eager to see you, too,” she admits, and my wolf howls inside me.

“Where are we going tonight?” She asks me, and I take her hand and lead her outside to the car.

“Well, our options are the Full Moon Diner, the steakhouse again, or Noli’s, an Italian restaurant.”

“Aspen Ridge seems like quite the bustling hot spot,” she says with an easy laugh.

“It really is,” I agree.

“I like Italian.”

“Noli’s it is.”

I start the car, and we head towards downtown. I take her hand in mine as I drive down the snowy roads. Tingles race up my fingers and arm from the point of contact, and I wonder if she can feel this connection between us, too. I glance over at her and see her watching me with a heated look in her pretty green eyes.
