Go get her! She needs our help. She needs us.

His words have me snapping out of my daze, and I take off, sprinting through the snow. I follow the scent of my fated mate and the sounds of her cries for help down a deserted hiking trail and over a fallen tree.

That’s when I see her.

Or the back of her, at least.

She’s flailing in the snow, trying to free herself, but her boot is trapped on a branch, and she’s stuck. Snow is starting to cover her, and I’m so glad that I heard her and was able to find her in time. I hurry to kneel next to her and untangle her from the branch; then I reach to pull her out.

“Hang on, I’ve got you,” I call to her as I grab her arms and lift her out of the snow.

She shudders, shivering as the snow drips down her coat and melts in her red hair.

“Thank god you came this way,” she says, her voice coming out hoarse from screaming for help.

Her big green eyes look up at me and if I wasn’t a shifter, if I was just a human, I know that I would have fallen in love with her right then and there.

She’s gorgeous, like something out of a fairytale, with her green eyes and long red hair. She’s curvy, her jacket and snow pants failing to conceal her beautiful body, and my mouth waters at the thought of licking every inch of her.

Thought we were saving her,my wolf reminds me, and I blink out of my wayward thoughts.

She’s trembling, probably from the cold and fear, and I bundle her closer to my chest.

“We need to get you warmed up. Can you walk?” I ask her.

My wolf is breathing in her sweet scent, his mouth drooling, and I know he’s close to biting and marking her.

Let’s save her first, I remind him, and he bares his teeth at me.

“I think so.”

“My cabin is just down the trail a little bit,” I tell her.

I know I should probably take her to town to get looked over or maybe to the Mountain Rescue headquarters, but I can’t. I want to get her warmed up. Then I want to make her mine.

I stand, pulling her to her feet and taking her hand in mine as we make our way out of the snowdrift and through the falling snow. It’s really starting to come down now, and I hope there’s no one else down this trail.

I pull out my walkie-talkie and send a message back to the other guys.

“I’m headed to my place. Found a woman in the snow and need to warm her up. Can someone else check the northeast trail for any other people? The one that goes up by Widow’s Peak.”

“On it,” Flint radios back, and I tuck my walkie-talkie back into my jacket.

“Just a little further,” I tell my mate, taking her elbow and guiding her through the snow.

“You work for the resort?” She asks me, her teeth chattering.

“I’m with the Mountain Rescue. I work for the town.”

“Thank you for saving me,” she says, and I nod.

“Anytime.”

She’s shaking, and as she takes another step, she cries out, her leg buckling under her. I’m already reaching for her beforeshe can hit the ground and I lift her into my arms and hurry towards my cabin.

My place comes into view, and I hurry through the snow and up onto the front porch. I never bother locking my door so it opens, and then I’m setting her down in the chair next to the fireplace.

“Be right back,” I tell her, heading outside to the wood pile to grab a few logs.
