“What time?”

“Five. I’ll pick you up at five.”

“It’s a date,” she says as she pulls on her jacket and follows Niko outside to the snowmobile.

“It certainly is,” I whisper as I watch them take off towards the ski resort.

My wolf growls at me, wanting to know why we didn’t tell her that she’s meant for us.

She’s a human,I remind him.We need to ease her into this. Take things slowly.

Not too slow,he warns me, and I smile.

No, not too slow.

I can’t believeI’m going on my first date.

Getting rescued and meeting Davis just feels so surreal. I didn’t think that anyone would find or rescue me. I was starting to lose all hope, and then he was there, pulling me out of the snow.

My heart had kicked against my ribs when I first looked into his deep blue eyes. It was like some part of my soul recognized his and knew he was a good guy, someone I could trust.

Maybe it was just the adrenaline or the relief that I had been saved before I froze to death, or maybe it was just that Davis was the hottest man that I’d ever laid eyes on, but I did trust him. I let him take me back to his secluded cabin. I was comfortable being around him alone.

I was having fun with him as I warmed up. He was funny, and his sense of humor was so similar to mine. We just seemed to click. I had thought that maybe it was just on my side, but then he had asked me out to dinner, and I knew he must have felt this connection too.

I’ve never felt this attracted to someone before. I never dated growing up, was never even interested in any of the boys I went to school with. Then I started traveling and was so focused on my photography that I never had much time or energy to even think about dating.

No one has made my heart race the way that Davis did yesterday.

Maybe it was just the adrenaline,my subconscious whispers to me.

Maybe. I guess we’ll see in a few minutes.

My phone rings, and I smile when I see my best friend’s name on the screen.

“Hey, Frankie. I miss you!” I answer.

“Hey, are you busy?” She asks me.

“No, well, kind of.”

“Alright,” she says with a laugh, and I smile wider.

“I’m getting ready to go out on a date,” I explain.

“Whoa, really?” She asks, sounding surprised.

Frankie and I grew up together, and she knows I’ve never been on a date before. I would be just as shocked if she told me she was going out with someone because she’s never been interested in dating or having a boyfriend either.

“Yeah, he saved me from a snowstorm yesterday and then asked me out to dinner.”

“Huh.”

“He works here with the Mountain Rescue team,” I tell her.
