“What’s his name?”

“Davis.”

“Davis what?”

“Um, I don’t know. I never got his last name.”

“Where are you going?” She asks me.

“Out to dinner.”

“Where are you going for dinner?”

“I don’t know.”

“Okay, well, keep your phone on you. Text me when you get back to the hotel safely,” she says, and I nod even though she can’t see me.

“I will.”

Frankie’s dad is a real piece of shit, and she doesn’t trust men easily. That’s why she’s never tried to date before. I don’t blame her. Her dad is a monster.

“I’ll be safe,” I promise her.

“Call me when you get back.”

“I will,” I promise her again. “I’ve got to go.”

“Have fun,” she says weakly, and I swallow hard.

“Thanks. Talk to you soon.”

We hang up, and I take a deep breath, smoothing down my wild red hair and taking one last look in the bathroom mirror before I slip on my coat, hat, and mittens. I’m wearing my dark skinny jeans that hug my ass, along with my white knitted sweater. The sweater is the warmest one that I have with me, and I’m hoping that it’s enough for tonight. I grab my purse and phone and head down to the hotel lobby.

Davis is already there when I step out of the elevator and I smile, my heart taking off like a shot when his eyes meet mine.

Guess it wasn’t just the adrenaline…

“Hey, you look great,” Davis tells me as he passes me a bouquet of roses.

“Thanks.”

I smile as I take the bouquet from him.

“Did you want to put them in your room? I didn’t think about you having to carry them all night,” he says.

“Sure. I’ll be right back.”

I hit the button for the elevator and press the button for my floor. It takes me a few minutes to drop the flowers off in my room and then head back down to the lobby to meet Davis.

“Ready to go?” I ask him, and he grins, takes my hand, and leads me out the front doors.

We head over to a big black SUV, and he opens the passenger door for me.

“Where are we headed to?” I ask him as he climbs behind the wheel.

“How do you feel about steak?” He asks me.

“I love it.”
