He cocks his head and grins wickedly. “The girls never seem to mind it.”

I glare at him. “Keep it under wraps, man. You better not be showing all that to Trinity or I’m gonna kick your fuzzy little ass. What would you say if I tore off my clothes in front of your girl?”

He growls and his golden eyes flash. “I’d eat your ass.”

Scrunching up my face, I groan. “Dude, watch what you say.”

He rolls his eyes and then he runs over to a nearby tree. “Luckily for you, we shifters often leave spare clothes and stuff in the woods for when we shift back.”

“What about a gun?”

He shoots me a look and smirks. “Do you really think a gun will work with a warlock? Not even remotely, man.”

“Let’s go, Romeo. Time’s a-wasting.”

We turn and scout around until we find the strange, barricaded door into the ground. We nod at each other and then slowly turn the wheel, opening it and slipping down to the ground.

A dark hole lit by tapers along the wall welcomes us below ground and we stalk forward carefully, eyes open for any threat, my heart reaching out for my mate’s every breath, every sigh, anything.

Just anything to know that she’s alright and waiting for me. Any hope.

CHAPTER 8

Trinity

My head comes up. I’m exhausted and hungry, thirsty. Annoyed beyond belief.

The idiot who kidnapped me disappeared about two hours ago and left me here alone, saying that he had things to get ready for our big date.

I roll my eyes. Date, my ass. I don’t want anything to do with this man.

“Faust. Who names their child, Faust?” And who the hell would marry such a lunatic?

Not me. I don’t want him. Don’t want him anywhere near me. But his power is stronger than mine and I’ve felt it pulling at me, trying to overpower my own powers, to push me at this asshole.

But I still feel the tug, the pull, the pain of my hunger for Leo. And now the sorrow.

I shouldn’t have thrown my fated mate away. Shouldn’t have been so bigoted in thinking that the only thing that I was willing to accept for a mate was a shifter or a warlock. Never a human.

Now I’d be willing to give myself to that man. It hurts my heart to know that he is hurt by my idiotic indecision and stupid ideas.

I hear a scrabbling off in the distance and my head lifts, sure that I’m about to come face to face with my kidnapper again.

Instead, a man that I know on sight and another man that makes my heart flutter wildly step cautiously into view.

“Lobo! Thank heaven you’re here! Get me out of here.” I move closer to the bars and then feel that sting and back away. “Shit! I forgot that the bars are hexed.”

“Just for witches or any shifter?” Lobo asks, moving up and studying them warily.

“I don’t know.”

He reaches out and immediately jumps back. “Huh! All shifters and supernaturals then.” His golden eyes narrow and he turns to Leo.

“What about you?”

“No!” I holler. “He can’t do it. It could kill him if it’s against humans too.”

The gorgeous man with the ice-blue eyes stares at me. “I’d do anything for you, Trinity. Happily. And if something happens to me, I wouldn’t care one bit…as long as you are safe.”
