Noah thought he might have detected a hint of disappointment in her voice, as though she had hoped to stay with him.
“There are some perks to being the alpha.”
Angie looked up and smiled at him. When she did, she literally ran straight into Carolyn.
“I’m so sorry,” Carolyn stammered. She turned white when she saw Noah. “Hello, Alpha.”
“It was my fault. I wasn’t watching where I was going.”
“Carolyn, this is Angie. Angie, Carolyn is a nurse and a member of my pack.”
“You’re the one who…” Carolyn clamped her hand over her mouth. Her face turned bright red, and she looked at Noah and then Angie.
Angie grinned and said, “I am. He seems to think that I should give him a chance, though. He’s trying to convince me that he’s not all bad.”
“He’s great,” Carolyn said. “We all love him.”
“Thanks, Carolyn.”
That is the most he had ever heard Carolyn say. She was extremely shy and self-conscious about her curvy body and how she looked. Carolyn’s boss, one of Noah’s friends, praised her and said that Carolyn was very smart and witty when she opened up.
The dogs were sitting on either side of Carolyn, who was absently petting them.
“I’m just moving in,” Angie said. “Would you like to come inside?”
“Oh, I couldn’t,” Carolyn said, looking at Noah.
“I was just leaving. I have some things to take care of. You two go ahead.”
“You’ll be my first friend in the shifter world,” Angie said.
Another glance at Noah and Carolyn nodded.
He hugged Angie and brushed a kiss across her lips before he called, “Come on, Rufus.”
Elijah walked into Noah’s office as soon as Noah arrived. “I thought you were going to the human world for a woman, not a dog.”
“Both, actually. This is Rufus.”
The dog shied away from Elijah.
“He’s skittish. According to Angie, he wasn’t treated well in the past.”
“Poor guy. You didn’t deserve that, did you?” Elijah asked, holding his hand out to the dog.
Rufus slowly walked over to him and let Elijah pet him.
“You know, soon, you’re going to be the center of attention. Everyone is going to be constantly giving you loves and attention. You’ll be spoiled rotten,” Elijah told the dog. “So, what now?” he asked Noah.
“Well, she will spend some time in the shifter world. We’ll hang out together. I know she’ll be a great luna, and I already care about her. She cares about me. The question is whether she’ll be able to deal with the backlash and whether our relationship would be able to survive it.”

“This is a nice apartment,” Angie said, looking around.
She peeked in the bedrooms and out on the balcony.
