She was shivering uncontrollably. Her eyes closed and he could barely see the rise and fall of her chest.

“We have to get her back down the mountain,” Noah said. “Keith, run down ahead and make sure that the doctor is still at her apartment.”

Keith shifted and took off.

“Elijah, take care of our two prisoners. Make sure they get back down the mountain alive, although I don’t care what shape they are in. They can tell the elders who hired them and what they were hired to do.”

“Yes, Alpha,” Elijah said.

“You heard him. Walk,” Elijah ordered.

The two men shifted and started slowly back down the mountain.

“I should make them walk in human form, but I’m afraid that we would never make it,” Elijah said. “Are you sure that you guys will be okay?”

“We will be,” Noah said.

Elijah looked doubtful but started down the mountain with his prisoners. Noah would be surprised if they both made it down alive. They were in pretty bad shape and Elijah was pissed. He had only met Angie briefly at the gala, but she was part of the pack and his future luna.

Rufus whined and licked Angie’s face. He nudged her as though he was trying to tell her to wake up.

Angie’s eyes fluttered open and she said, “You’re a good boy. You came up here to protect Noah and help him save me. When I’m all better you and Apollo will get tons of peanut butter doggie cookies.”

Saying those few words seemed to take all of her energy because her eyes closed again.

“Oh no, you don’t,” Noah said. “Open those pretty green eyes. You need to keep them open. Don’t you even think about going to sleep on me.”

Noah knew that she had lost a lot of blood and was incredibly weak. He was terrified that if she closed her eyes, she wouldn’t wake back up again.

He tried to use the remnants of her clothes as makeshift patches to stop the bleeding. However, he didn’t have any way to secure the cloth to her.

“I think I might have slowed the bleeding a little bit,” Noah said. “Let’s get you off of this mountain.”

Angie

I’m so cold. Angie thought, shivering.

The gashes and bites burned as though someone poured acid into them. Warm blood spilled out of them. Regardless of how hard she tried, she couldn’t move. It was only a matter of minutes, if that, before she was going to be with her parents. Angie just hoped that Noah found Apollo in time to save him.

She tried to open her eyes. The world was spinning around her and her stomach lurched. Her head felt as though it had been tightened in a vise and was about to implode. She struggled to take a deep enough breath to get the oxygen she needed.

Her eyes were so heavy and her eyelids closed. She focused on Noah’s face and thought of all the love she felt for him while she waited.

The full weight of the wolf was instantly on her. She was certain that she heard some of her ribs crack and her insides turned to mush.

I love you guys so much, she thought, hoping that Noah and Apollo could hear her.

Her parents had taught her that shifters and humans could communicate telepathically if they had a close connection.

I wish I had told you sooner, Noah, she thought.

She felt the wolf’s breath on her throat, and she waited for the pain as his teeth sank in and ripped. It never came. The weight on her abdomen was lifted, and she heard growling and fighting.

Angie opened her eyes. Noah, two other wolves, and Rufus were there, fighting the men who had kidnapped her. Teeth were gnashing and claws hit the ground all around her as the fight raged on. A loud yelp pierced the air, followed by a thump. A second, third, and fourth thump was heard. Finally, after what seemed like forever, the growling and fighting stopped.

Please don’t let my guys be hurt, Angie repeated in her mind.
