Zane shrugged. “It’s a small town. I’m sure everyone knows.”

Beck nodded. “The women all know to keep away.”

Zach asked, “Why the fuck would you say that?”

Beck replied, “You know why, even if you’re too fucking stupid to realize it.”

West grunted. “Amber King.”

“Amber is barely a friend anymore,” Zach grumbled.

I said, “Maybe. But until she truly moves on, no one else will touch you. Everyone likes Amber more than you.”

Zach growled, “Asshole.”

I snorted. “I’m the nice one.”

Beck sighed. “So you want everyone to think, Nolan. Why did you ask Aunt Lori about me and Sabrina getting married? Now she won’t leave me alone.”

“Because she was trying to plan my wedding, and I wanted to distract her,” I replied and shrugged. “Not like you wouldn’t do the same thing.”

West glanced over at me. “Unless you want tacky tourist mugs at the reception and everyone wearing fairy tale costumes, make sure that doesn’t ever fucking happen.”

Zane frowned. “Costumes?”

West nodded. “Aunt Lori wishes she could’ve had medieval dresses, or some such shit, at her own wedding. So she’s determined to get one of us to have costumes at ours.”

Zach smirked. “Nolan would be the perfect person to do that. He dresses up for a living.”

I flipped him off. “That’s what I think of your idea.”

Zach laughed, and I did too. Even West and Beck chuckled, along with Zane.

I thought maybe, just maybe, I was making progress with my brothers when someone knocked on the door and broke the spell.

As Rafael “Rafe” Mendoza walked in, we all quieted, and West narrowed his eyes. “What the fuck do you want?”

Since West was marrying Rafe’s sister, he should be nice to the man. But apparently, there was some sort of beef between the pair. Which was strange considering they’d been best friends as boys.

Rafe crossed his arms over his chest. “I’m only here because Emmy made me come. Something about getting to know all her new brothers-in-law, or some such shite.”

West shook his head. “You’re not in the UK any longer, Mendoza. Shit is the word we use here.”

Rafe clenched his hands around his arms, almost as if resisting doing something stupid, like punching West. “I don’t do it on purpose. When you live somewhere as long as I did, then sometimes words get swapped out without even realizing it.”

Zach smiled. “Hey, maybe I should try learning a British accent. Maybe that will help with the ladies.”

I switched into one. “It might finally make you sound clever.”

Zach gave me the double bird. “Fuck you, Nolan.”

But as we grinned at each other, I knew we’d reached a comfortable level of shit-talking with each other. Like all brothers should have.

Beck—who, despite being the second oldest, had spent many years acting as the head of the family—went over to Rafe and put out a hand. “Well, I’ll welcome you to the family, even if West is being a stubborn asshole right now. He’ll come around eventually.”

Rafe looked skeptical, but shook Beck’s hand. I went over and offered mine. “To be honest, I’m surprised we haven’t met since we were kids. We support some of the same charities. I saw your name, but you never showed up at the benefits.”

The man had been a world-famous soccer player before an injury had ended his career earlier in the year.
