He blinked once, staring at me with a frown.

“You used to…” I paused, searching for the right word. “Torment me a lot,” I clarified.

He kept staring, his gaze so intense I found myself wanting to cast my eyes away. Eon had powerful eyes, and sometimes I didn’t want them directed my way because it seemed as if they could see through me.

“Before,” he began, still observing me, his voice low as if he was walking on thorns. “You were a game I wanted to play with.”

My hands curled against his bare chest.

I knew how he regarded me before. He didn’t see me as a person but a prey, agame, something he could toy with to pass time and finish as soon as he grew bored with. My life seemed so meaningless and so cheap to him.

But that was all before. He didn’t think of me like that anymore. I was his mate… right?

“You’re my entire world now.” He lowered his face until his lips grazed my cheek, their warmth spreading a tingle under my skin. “You’re my everything and without you, I wouldn’t exist, regardless of what you may think.”

My pointy ears curled under my hair, and my face warmed. I bit my bottom lip, a foolish smile threatening to make me an even bigger fool under his affection.

I retracted my hands and covered my face with them. But I knew he saw everything; he chuckled quietly, and I felt the way his temperature increased faintly as I rolled to my other side, curling into myself.

Peeking through the gaps between my fingers, I asked, “When did that change?”

“When you trusted me.” He moved closer as he spoke, his heat transferring onto me, his arms caging me as if he wanted to lock me away.

When I trusted him.

When I didn’t run away from him.

When he fought that Cyrva Spider that had harmed my companion.

His lips skimmed my ear, his exhales warm against my skin. I curled further into myself, trembling with giddiness. He was extremely careful with his teeth as he traced the outside of my ear, and there was a smile in his voice when he murmured, “I was completely yours then, and nothing could have changed that, not even you hating me.”

Mine. I smiled behind my hands and shrank further, biting my tongue to not make a sound. He was all mine. All mine, mine, mine.

His chest rumbled with a subdued laugh, the mellow sound prompting me to peek from behind my hands again. My ears twitched and curled even further, and I stared at the way his eyes sparkled and the way his lips curved up until those beautiful marks on his cheeks came to life.

“So sweet.”

He stilled again, delight leaving his hardening eyes.

“I still don’t understand why you were so mean at times,” I rushed.

Eon squinted, his eyes on me yet not completely seeing me. And when he spoke, it was as if he was talking more to himself than me. “I could tell you what you currently believe, and I could tell you the truth.” He shook his head with a slight glare, but even that wasn’t directed at me.

I frowned at his odd behaviour. “What do you mean?”

His eyes lost their light, and he averted them. “What you currently believe is that it was all me in the beginning.”

What I currently believed? If it was between what I currently believed and what the truth truly was, then…

My eyes widened. I stammered for a moment before it finally clicked. “That was allEn?!”

Eon shrugged one shoulder. “Sometimes.”

Of course! After having a chance to know them both and explore their personalities, how had I not made the connection? Eon was careful and playful, but En was unpredictable. None of Eon’s previous actions matched his more recent ones, and it all made such perfect sense then.

“I just knew it!” I huffed, forcibly pushing Eon onto his back so I could sit on his stomach. My shoulders tensed and my spine stiffened, and my claws itched to dig into something because all along, I’d blamed the wrong person. “You’re too different from the other Spiders. I just knew something wasn’t making sense!”

“Please, stop calling me sweet.” His shaking hands balled over his eyes.
