And then something sharp poked my shoulder.

My eyes bulged. I hurried to scramble out of his suffocating grip, placing distance between us.

Hunching my body, I kept still as I watched him take a fighting stance; he crouched low in front of me, upper lip curling back and exposing his sharp, large, deadly fangs, a small fire burning against the white layer of his narrowed eyes.

“Back down,” he warned, voice low and deep as he crawled towards me.

I moved to the side, not stepping back but circling around him carefully.

“Back down!” He snarled and took a big step towards me, but I hurriedly stepped aside.

“No.” I shook my head, keeping my eyes on him. “I’m not a Spider.”

Our eyes locked firmly on each other. I couldn’t blame him. We were from different worlds; I didn’t expect him to follow my traditions.

But I didn’t see him like that.

“I don’t want to be your mate,” I said slowly, mindful of my words.

His black pupils shrank to terrifying slits, the fire in his eyes flaring before he pushed it down.

I rushed to explain, “You and I are from different worlds. You can’t expect me to simply expose my throat and allow you to link me. We don’t do it that way in my world.” Still watching him, I rose slowly, keeping my posture defensive and unwelcoming. “The male has to impress the female if he wants her to be his mate. If she accepts him, all goes well, but it’s all up to thefemale. If she isn’t willing, then youmustwalk away.”

He stood up as I continued and took a step in my direction.

I jumped back quickly. “I’m not telling you to impress me! I said Idon’twantto be your mate!”

The Cyrva flashed his fangs at me in a silent snarl, the fire in his glaring eyes flaring brightly for a moment. He looked ready to break all my bones—something that made me question if I’d misinterpreted his intentions to mate—but he didn’t do anything.

I blinked a few times, my brows furrowing.

His breed was known to take whatever they desired without any hesitation, yet he… listened to me. Why he wasn’t aggressive or using his dominance against me baffled me.

It wasn’t right.

But I wasn’t here to study him.

“Where’s my companion, Spider?” I asked instead.

He looked at me with such unfriendly eyes, then he turned and scaled up a tree.

His back muscles stretched tight with his movements, and I stared, unable to look away from his powerful form even when he sat on a tree branch, his long legs dangling lightly.

He whistled a tune that made me shiver, my fingers curling into fists to keep me still.

A low growl answered him.

Tensing, I glanced around, noticing the black panther that approached before I did a double-take. He had blazing red eyes with glowingflames. He stalked closer to the tree the Spider was on, sleek muscles rippling as he moved before he jumped and sat next to the Cyrva.

Then I noticed the small creature hanging from his mouth, wrapped in the Spider’s pale-red thread.

“Give me back my companion, Spider!” I launched myself to the branch he was resting on and glared when he smirked at me.

He eyed me, then he reached for my companion and gripped her not-so-gently in his palm.

“My name isn’t Spider. It’s Eon.” He paused, his lips stretching wide and his red eyes glinting. “Pixie.”
