I gasped. “I’m anElf!How dare you call me a Pixie, you fool!”

He moved in a blur, and then the rough bark of the tree dug into my back, his hard body uncomfortably warm against me. I gasped and stilled in place. His thick arms caged me again, his head dipping low, his eyes challenging.

My blood chilled when our noses touched.

“I didn’t hear you clearly,” he whispered, peering deep into my eyes, and I wondered how low he had to bend to meet my gaze. “Care to repeat what you said?”

I wouldn’t. Not when there was a threatening edge in his tone. Not when he was so close.

He noticed the shiver that ran down my spine, noticed the goosebumps on my skin and the slow movement of my throat as I gulped. His shoulders shook, lips twitching at the corners, red eyes brightening a touch.

He was fighting back his laugh, again.

“Will I see you again tomorrow?”

The same question from yesterday.

Despite my unease, I rolled my eyes. “What answer are you looking for, Spider?”

“Eon,” he grumbled, moving even closer, forcing my back to dig into the bark. I winced, and he noticed it, sneaking a muscled arm behind me to arch my body towards him.

My breath caught, and I hurried to hold on to him for balance. “Let g-go of me!”

“You didn’t answer my question, and even though I didn’t answer yours, you know what I’m looking for.” He pulled on my earlobe with sharp teeth, but he did it with measured pressure. Still, I made a displeased noise and bared my small fangs even though he didn’t see me.

“Why do you want to see me again?”

Either he killed me or kicked me out of his land with the promise of killing me if he saw me again. He shouldn’t be asking—demanding—to see me again.

Delaying the inevitable just to amuse himself was cruel of him.

Typical of his nature.

The male drew back and studied me. Placing a big finger on the curve of my neck, he lightly slid it down to my left shoulder and down the length of my arm. His touch tickled, and even though it was uncomfortably warm, I shivered, goosebumps lining my skin. The way his red eyes watched me silenced my oncoming protest.

“I want you.”

I blinked at him, then shrank my body, attempting to slip away. He leaned closer, locking his arms around me.

When he didn’t allow me to move one bit, I hissed, “I don’t want a Spider.”

He squeezed my wrists a little and narrowed his eyes.

I gave up trying to negotiate with him because his kind didn’t understand words.Nowasn’t enough, so I raised my leg and rammed him with the heel of my right foot. The Cyrva stumbled from the branch and onto the ground only because he didn’t expect me to do that. His murderous gaze made me control the water, twisting two swirling spirals up at the ready.

Forget eating me. He looked ready to erase me from the world.

“Listen here.” I jumped to the ground, standing before him with hardened eyes and twitching fingers as I used my gift. “My older sister died because of a Spider. I will not choose amonsterto be my anything.”

His eyes narrowed. “My older brother died because of an Elf. Did I hold that against you, weakling?”

The spirals dropped with a loud splash. My brows furrowed. “Your brother?”

No one knew what kind of Spider attacked Amnestria, but this one mentioned an Elf. The only Elf who ever dared to walk into this world was her.

And now me.

“He wanted this Elf,” he said. “She was exactly like you, only a bit bigger and slightly older. But she died, so he threatened a… friend… to do him a favour and end him. I guess he forgot what he was when he mated her.”
