Thirteen arfla stalks gained me six jars of sleeping powder, which wasn’t bad considering it wasn’t as great of a necessity for us. It was mainly given to the unwell to help them sleep through their sickness. Twenty-two olind leaves gained me fifteen jars of red salt, and thirty-eight welmik twigs gained me twenty-four different kinds of spices that didn’t grow in my world. Some of them had made my nose burn and my eyes water when I’d sniffed at them.

For most of the trades, I allowed the Fairies to make the negotiation. I saw how it pleased them. They were fair traders, but some things were more valuable than others.

Like the nolardi roots.

“Three for each,” I said, nodding my head.

The male Fairy blinked, his lips parting. He was incredibly handsome, and he looked so strong and capable, as was typical of his species. The Fairies were slightly bigger and more muscular than us, especially the males, but all of them had such unique, lovely wings. I had yet to see two Fairies with similar ones.

Aside from their great looks, their wings were their primary weapon when wooing a potential mate.

I tried not to stare at his navy ones, but they were so breathtaking that I couldn’t stop stealing glances whenever his attention drifted to the roots in my basket.

“I was successful the last time I asked for that,” I told him, briefly eyeing his wings before meeting his navy gaze when he raised his eyes. “Will I need to find someone else to trade with?”

“I—well, you see, three is…” He smiled, and my lips mirrored it without my control. “You’re a wicked female.”

My smile trembled, and I shyly peeked at him as my cheeks warmed. “Is that a yes?”

“Twenty-one healing balms for seven nolardi roots.”

I beamed at him, fidgeting with my fingers as he compressed the twenty-one glass jars into a medium tin. Once done, I handed him the precious roots as he extended the tin to me.

“Thank you for your fair exchange.” I bowed my head a little and gave him another shy smile.

His wings glimmered behind him, and his smile broadened into a blinding grin as he inclined his head. “Pleasure trading with you, lady Elf.”

Cheeks hot, I walked away from the medicinal stall with a slight sway in my steps.

“He was quite the sight.” Keia trilled. “Then again, he wasn’t the first to make you blush.”

My cheeks grew warmer, and I pursed my lips as I looked for a stall where I could trade my basket.

They are very pretty people,I replied, my shoulders hunching a little.

“With pretty voices and pretty wings and pretty faces. Very pretty.”

I laughed, tilting my head to squish her on my shoulder. She shrieked and gently pecked my earlobe in response, and I laughed louder.

Do not tease,I said, grinning as I made my way to a food stall.

Keia huffed, and I felt her puffing her feathers before shaking them a little.

I ended up trading the vine basket for a bag to carry on my back and a tenderly cooked kalai on a stick. Bliss tingled on my tongue and hummed through my body as I chewed slowly, and to savour my successful trip and the sweet snack, I decided to explore more of the Fairies world.

Cheeks puffed and head bouncing from side to side, I skipped around the buzzing Market. I passed some talking flowers on my way to one of the stalls, and I half-listened as they gossiped about an Alpha Werewolf and his mate. I paused to listen to them, and I would have continued listening had they not suddenly found it more interesting to talk about a passing mushroom that hopped on its stem.

Giggling, I extended my tongue and licked up the juice dribbling from the corners of my mouth before licking it from the stick. I ate the kalai too quickly for my liking, and now I could only run my tongue inside my mouth to savour the lingering sweetness before chewing on the edible salty stick. I scrunched my nose and looked up, and then instantly stopped in my tracks.

The Market was full of beauty. I knew that, but nothing could have prepared me for the male standing before me.

He had silky white hair that reached the middle of his neck, and it had a yellow glow to it. His eyes were a bright green, such a mesmerising contrast against his pale features. He was taller than me, and his wings…

I blinked several times, feeling heat creep up my neck.

His wings were long and large, the dominant colours being glowing white with green swirls and symbols. I’d never seen something like them—neither the colours nor the design.

They fluttered, and I startled out of my thoughts with a quiet gasp. My cheeks burned as I forced myself to meet his gaze.
