But he didn’t need to cage me to keep me with him.

“Eon?” I spoke, my voice small.

He hummed and furrowed his eyebrows.

“Don’t get irritated, but…” I paused, then craned my neck to connect our lips together. I pulled back a little to gaze into his red eyes, our lips and noses still touching. “That was so sweet.”

Eon tensed. His features clouded over and his eyes narrowed, but he let out asickeningly-harmless smile that sent shivers down my spine.

I never wanted to see it again.

“I adore you, too,” I said quickly, sighing when his features brightened once again. “I wish to be with you, but I must go back now if I want to see you again without any trouble.”

“Will I see you again tomorrow?” he whispered softly, and Ibeamedat him before pulling him down to wrap my arms around his thick neck.

“I’ll come back to you.” I smiled, nuzzling his neck to lay a gentle kiss.

He mirrored my action, kissing my neck lightly before he got up and pulled me with him. I stared up at him with a bubbly smile, and he mirrored it softly, calmly, before he held my small face in his large hands and lowered his head to lay a prolonged kiss on my lips. My pointy ears curled and my heart raced. I was smiling as he kissed me, and he wassmilingas well, and I didn’t want to leave the warmth of his strong embrace.

192 Blue Moons and I only felt true happiness then. With a predator who could easily crush me but held me like I was his own bleeding heart.

He withdrew and stared into my eyes, his palms warm on my heated face.

“Red looks delightful on you.” He brushed his lips against mine, the action and his low, husky voice sending a tremor down my spine. “Go.”

Smiling brighter, I moved to wrap my arms around his waist for a quick hug, then called for Keia so we could leave.

The fool had my heart fluttering like a butterfly, and I couldn’t stop blushing at the phantom feeling of his soft, warm lips on mine.

As exciting as the bonding rituals were, the aftermath was always bittersweet. To send one of our own off to another village or world so they could start a happier future was like giving a treasure to someone else.

“I feel as though I haven’t seen her for so long.” A female near me sighed. “Yet it was only last night.”

I nodded, chewing on a sugary welmik twig.

“But what about you?”

Pausing, I blinked and turned my head towards the female who had directed the question at me. Everyone’s eyes landed on me, but I froze under my mother’s questioning gaze.

“True, where were you?” asked another female, who stared at me with worry. “When Faelyn asked for you, a beautiful male Fairy stated that you came back, yet you weren’t here.”

Silence followed, everyone expecting me to confess where I was, but I was still, shocked and scared to speak. Anything I uttered now, my mother would hear. The pounding of my heart in my ears made it impossible for me to hear my thoughts. The quivering of my hands made it impossible for me to move, and the tightening of my throat made it impossible to breathe.

“Kenia?” I heard my mother’s voice, and I saw the look on her face.

I shook my head slowly and blinked. “I was connecting with my element.” I swallowed the tight lump that attempted to strangle me.

“Truly?”

“Truly, mother.”

My chest pinched sharply and I winced.

“That aside,” said a female next to my mother. “A group of female Elves from a nearby village is attending ours tonight.”

The females squealed. I frowned while my mother smiled warmly. “The female is returning her answer tonight.” She closed her eyes and inhaled deeply. “My boy has grown so much.”
