When that rumble settled down and its message was deciphered in my head, I reacted fast. Too fast for someone who still had an unhealed wound on their neck.

“Wh-why?” I stammered, blinking at him quickly as I tried to free myself from his grasp.

He had that amused smirk again. En reached for my right wrist and easily raised it to his lips despite me tensing my body and trying to make myself as unmovable as possible.

My teeth were shaking.

“I allowed you to do whatever you wanted, didn’t I?” His smirk widened when I gasped.

“Bu-but that was harmless!” I defended, trying to pull my wrist back, but his big palm was circled around it like a cuff.

He voiced a pleased huff. “This will be harmless, too.”

“You’re going to bite me!” I squeaked when he opened his mouth.

He huffed again, and I knew he was trying not to laugh. “Withaffection.”

If the word affection was saidwithouta ridiculing tone, I would have almost believed him.

I tried to stop him again, hurriedly asking, “How—how would you feel if I bit you?!”

En paused. His head lifted a little to look at me. Then, his smirk grew wider and wider and wider until it was terrifying. He tilted his head back and exposed his thick throat, still looking down at me with that predatory grin.

“To your heart’s content, little Elf.”

His shameless tone rattled my spine.

No way. There was no way I could do it—I was an Elf! No way would I be able to bite a person! All that flesh and blood and—I was close to spewing my guts out.

That was why he didn’t wait for my response before resuming what he was doing earlier.

“Wa-wa-wait, wait, wait! Listen to me!”

He did with a menacing glare.

“You ca-can.” I gulped thickly, suppressing a whine. “If you answer a few things.”

En hummed, tipping his head to the other side, still looking very amused. “One bite for each question?” he drawled, pretending to think, and when he seemed to have made a decision, he slowly and exaggeratedly ran his tongue across his sharp top teeth. “Ask asmuchas you want, little Elf.”

“No, th-thank you.” I gave him a wobbly smile. “But can you heal that wound on my neck, please?”

He shook his head as he studied my smaller and thinner fingers. “Later.”

I took a deep breath in and exhaled slowly. “That male who fought Eon that day,” I began with a careful whisper. “Who was he?”

“Eon’s half-brother.”

My brows furrowed. “Half-brother?”

“Different mothers.” He shrugged. “Eon is a half-breed. His old man decided to have a second mate, a Karru, and Eon was the result of two contrasting breeds.”

Before I could open my mouth, his hold tightened around my wrist. I winced and hissed, then gave En a sharp look.

“Two bites.”

And his sharp teeth punctured the base of my thumb, causing me to flinch and clench my other hand. To him, it was probably a scratch because he didn’t sink his teeth in very far. Still, I felt the tips of his fangs lightly poke the bone of my thumb.

I raised my shoulders to my ears and turned my head away when he aimed to make the second bite. He moved my hand for a moment, and then there was that piercing pain again, this time somewhere at the bottom of my forearm.
