“I’ll just cut to the chase Mr. Roy. You were the last person seen entering Mr. McKnight’s condo before he was killed.” He levels me with his eyes. “Why were you there?”

“I went to have a conversation.”

“And did you?”

“Yes.”

“What was the conversation about?” He glances at Asher.

“About his threats to Tilly. He was threatening to show back up at her house. He was already violent once and I let him know that he needed to stay away.” I clear my throat.

“And how did he react to this conversation?” Asher leans back in his chair.

“As you would expect. He wasn’t happy.” I shrug.

My hands are resting on the table, and I don’t miss Caster’s eyes catch on my knuckles.

“Did you and Mr. McKnight have a physical altercation?” He asks.

“We did. I’m not going to lie to you. I landed a punch or two, then left. He was alive and well. Still spewing threats as I walked out the door.”

Caster nods. “Ok. Did you happen to see anyone else? Anyone in the building that looked suspicious?”

I scrub my palms down my thighs. “No.”

“Alright.” He adjusts his coat. “We appreciate you coming in. It’s just protocol, but we ask that you stay in town for the next few days. In case we have any more questions.”

“Sure. I have no plans to go anywhere.” I stand and give each one a nod before I’m back out in the squad room.

Jace and Adam come out of the adjoining room.

“You did good.” Adam blows out a heavy breath and braces his hands on his hips.

“Glad that’s over. Y’all need anything else? I need to get to Tilly.” I fish out my phone to shoot her a text.

“That’s it man. We’ll let y’all know if we hear anything.” He squeezes my shoulder.

I thumb out a text to her as I’m walking to the door. I almost run right into a small frantic body.

“Crap! Sorry!” I glance up to see Lucy, who apologizes quickly.

“It’s my bad. I wasn’t watching where I was going.” I shove my phone back in my pocket.

“No worries.” She gives a timid smile. "How’s Tilly?” She whispers.

I figured news wouldn’t stay quiet for long.

“I heard about Blaine. That’s awful.” She shakes her head.

“Yeah. Bad deal.” I push my palm against the door. “I got to run. I’ll see you later.”

“Bye Grey.” She waves, heading towards Rex’s desk.

All I want is to get home, pull Tilly in my arms and forget about this fucking nightmare.
