The next thing I knew me, King, and the asshole were in handcuffs.

Scribe and Pyro were standing by Claudia, who held Charlie in her arms protectively, silently crying while Mike and his deputies put the three of us into separate vehicles.

However, when a beige sedan pulled up moments later, I watched in horror as Diana Peters, the director of the Rosewood CPS department, walked over to Claudia with a solemn look on her face before she took Charlie from my woman.

Chapter Twenty-Two

Frank

“Turn to the right.”

Doing as the deputy asked, I couldn’t get the look of pain from my woman’s face out of my head. Hearing her scream as Diana Peters drove off with Charlie gutted me.

“To the left.”

Turning, I took a deep breath as the kid snapped another picture.

God, she was never going to forgive me.

Never.

I just cost her Charlie.

“Alright, sir, I’m done,” the young deputy said. “You can go sit with your friend.”

“Thank you.” I murmured, taking a seat next to King who was lounging in a chair, his head thrown back, eyes closed.

“I can’t believe you’re sleeping right now.”

“It’s quiet here.” King muttered. “Now, shut up so I can get some sleep before my woman shows up and starts slaughtering innocent people.”

Leaning forward in my chair, I rested my head in my hands, wondering how Claudia was ever going to forgive me for what I did. I didn’t mean to cause her anymore trouble. I just wanted to help her tonight. If I’d known that asshole was going to show, I would have been nicer, but seeing her scared, I lost my head and didn’t think clearly.

Claudia was one of the strongest women I knew. Nothing ruffled her feathers, yet Mr. Hayden did.

Why?

But more importantly, why was Claudia scared of him?

“I can hear your brain working, Frank,” King said under his breath.

“Sorry,” I mumbled, sitting up. “She was so scared, King. Why? Who was the fucker?”

“Don’t know, but Scribe is looking into him. All we know right now is that he works for CPS.”

“I thought Diana was taking over Claudia’s case.”

“So did I.” King groaned, stretching.

“What about Charlie?”

King shook his head. “I don’t know, brother.”

“Where is he!”

Moaning, King stood. “And there is the General.”

Getting to my feet, King grabbed my arm, shaking his head.
