Wiping his eyes, the judge took a deep breath and smiled when he addressed Fiona. “And you must be the little lady that has everyone’s panties in a wad.”

“Yes, Sir,” Fiona said sheepishly.

“How are you feeling?”

“Better. Dr. Claudia fixed me right up. She said I would have died if I didn’t get help soon.”

“I bet that scared you, didn’t it?”

“Yes, Sir. It did.”

“Fiona, I’m going to ask you something and it would really help me if you could be honest with me, okay?”

“I can do that, Sir.”

“Good. Now, can you tell me what happened and how you came to be in Rosewood?”

Chapter Twenty-Nine

Frank

Fiona’s testimony ran all the way to lunch when Judge Tomlinson ordered everyone to go eat something and be back in an hour. While the biggest hurdle was over, I still found myself holding my breath. Diana Peters had yet to give her testimony for the State, and Scribe was just gearing up. My brother stayed up all night, going over the latest law books, never resting once.

I just wanted this day to be over and to know my son was coming home with us.

“You need to eat something,” Lidi said, leaning close to me. “I’m not hungry either, but we can’t give up hope.”

“I hate this, Lidi.”

“I do too, but we will know either way soon enough.”

“Have you called Henley?”

“Yes. Charlie is doing just fine.”

“And how about our other two?” I smirked, looking down at her stomach.

“Snug as a bug in a rug. We don’t have to worry about those two. They are not going anywhere.”

Sighing, I nodded when Claudia’s phone rang.

Leaning forward, I looked at my plate of uneaten food when I heard her clearly state, getting to her feet, “I’m on my way.”

“Fiona or Trip?” I asked, looking up at her as she looked at the others surrounding us and spoke, “It’s Trip. I need to go.”

“I’ll help,” Georgie said, rising to his feet along with Priest and Enigma. “King, keep us updated.”

King nodded. “You do the same, brother.”

Watching my wife run out of the coffee shop with my brothers in tow, I prayed everything was okay.

“We need to head back,” Scribe said shortly after looking at his phone.

Back in the courtroom, I sat next to Cameron, who looked bored out of his mind. I didn’t blame my little buddy one bit. Half of the crap Scribe muttered went through one ear and out the other. While I prided myself on knowing quite a few things, legal jargon never interested me.

“So, what you are telling me is the minor mother wanted Dr. James to be the mother of her child? That she hand-picked Dr. James?”

“Yes, Your Honor.”
