“Yeah, boss?”

“Be careful.”

“We will.” And with that, we ended the call.

Teo was pissed, but he knew that I would do whatever I had to do to make sure that Mira was safe. The sound of running water stopped and my gaze wandered to the steam bellowing from the partially opened bathroom door. My only guess was that Mira had left it ajar and the door had drifted open during her shower.

Mira’s silhouette suddenly appeared in the small frame of vision, and I jumped guiltily but I couldn’t tear my eyes away. Her back was turned toward the door as she gently towel dried her hair. My gaze settled on her bare shoulder, ran down her smooth back, and down to the gentle curves of her hips.

A knock on the door broke my trance. Realizing how creepy my watching her like that was, I shook my head and refocused, before hurrying to the door.

I stood to the side of the door and called out in a commanding tone, always on guard when in enemy territory. “Who is it?”

“Room service,” a soft, small voice responded.

I opened the door a crack to confirm that it was actually room service before letting the girl into the room to deliver our meal. After removing our plates from her tray and receiving a generous tip, the girl quickly excused herself.

I'd just sat down at the small bistro-style table when Mira walked out of the bathroom.

“Wow.” My voice cracked and I had to clear my throat. Seeing Mira in nothing but my white shirt, her hair still damp and wild, took my breath away.

“What?” She fidgeted with the hem of the shirt. I suspected that she was feeling a bit exposed, but I couldn't make myself look away.

I raised my brow and took a bite from a plate of food on the table. To most, the action would have seemed casual, as if I was unaffected by the presence of Mira standing there, half naked in nothing but my shirt, but in reality, it was a strategic move to buy a moment to compose myself before speaking again. “The shirt looks better on you than it does on me.”

“Oh.” Mira's cheeks heated. I couldn't help the smile that tugged at the corners of my mouth, but I hid it by taking a drink from a bottle of water. “What are you eating?” she asked, walking over to the table.

“I had them send dinner up instead of going downstairs to eat. I hope that’s okay.”

“Yeah, I’m starved, and I don’t think I’m quite dressed for dinner.”

“Hell, I think that’s how you should dress for every meal.” I smirked at her, and she glared at me before stealing a bit of the roasted chicken and potatoes from my plate.

“Hey, hands off.” I playfully swatted at her hand, and she pulled away quickly, popping a piece of potato into her mouth victoriously.

“Mmm. That’s really good.”

“Yeah. Seems Mrs. Ricci knows a thing or two about cooking.”

Mira took the seat across from me and began digging into the food on her plate.

“I called Teo to let him know what had happened so that no one would worry about us not making it home tonight.”

“Oh, I guess I should probably call Stefano and let him know what’s going on.”

“Why?”

“What do you mean, why?”

“Why does he need to know where you are?”

“I don’t know. It just feels like something he should know.”

“Well then, call him.”

“On second thought, he’d probably just get upset.”

“Why would he get upset about the car breaking down?”
