I took another bite of my apple. “Then, Raven’s life is in danger.”

“Just like Colin’s.”

I took a step back and drew in a deep breath. “Have you told Levi?”

He shook his head. “I haven’t even told Brody. I came here the second I could.”

I tossed the apple core into the trash can over my shoulder. “Why?”

“You know damn good and well I don’t want to cause Levi anymore stress. He’s already under so much damn pressure with his anger, I’m not sure what any more will do to him. And don’t get me started on Brody. Something is off with him, and I can’t figure out why in the hell I feel that way.”

Makes two of us. “Do you have any idea what this big thing coming could be? Anything at all?”

He shrugged. “No. It was just darkness. Darkness, and this sort of unfocused feeling that didn’t go away until Raven’s voice spoke out at me.”

“Did she touch you in any way? You know, to get you to focus?”

He nodded slowly. “Unfortunately, yeah.”

“Shit,” I hissed.

“That’s why I think this is about her. I was thinking about her when it happened, I was with her when it happened, and it was her that pulled me back to reality.”

“And you’ve got no idea what’s coming?”

He clenched his jaw. “It could be anything. I mean, more bear shifters attacking? Another attack altogether? Something in town? An outside force? How the hell do we protect her from something I can’t see? How do I do that, Hudson? How to I protect her from something I can’t see coming?”

I paused as his wave of emotion crashed into my chest. “She’s not Colin, Dean.”

He raked his hands through his hair. “She’s going to die. She’s going to die because I can’t see it. Raven’s in trouble and I can’t even tell her why.”

“Dean!” I bellowed.

He whipped around to face me. “What!?”

I walked over and settled my hands on his shoulders. “You have to stop carrying this guilt around. It’s eating you alive.”

He blinked back tears. “If I would’ve seen it coming, Colin would still be alive. We could’ve saved him, Hudson. I could’ve saved him.”

I shook my head. “But it’s already happened. It’s in the past, and we can’t do anything about it. What we can do, though, is protect Raven. And you know we aren’t going to let anything happen to her.”

“What do we do, Hudson? What the hell am I supposed to do with this?”

I slid my hands down his arms before they fell back to my sides. “We’ll be on high alert.”

He nodded. “Good idea.”

“Have Brody post scout parties that wrap all the way around to the edge of the woods once you can find him. Make sure the children of our pack don’t go beyond the borders of our chalets.”

“What about the bonfire coming up?”

“What about it? I don’t think we have to disturb the bonfire. If anything, it’ll enable us to take a headcount. Make sure no one’s missing.”

“And Raven?”

I shrugged. “You got a follow-up to that?”

“What do we tell her? She’s currently alpha. She has to know, right?”
