“I know you’re grown, but you'll understand when you become a mother. I was so worried,” she finally calmed enough to take a deep breath.

“I should’ve called. I’m sorry.”

“How did your meeting go?”

“It went great. How are you?”

“Better now.”

“I guess I owe you dinner or something.”

“And a damn drink. You almost gave me a heart attack.”

“You’re being dramatic now,” I chuckled, imagining her hand on her chest to sell it. “I’ll call you when I get back.”

“When you get back? Where are you?” Sadie asked, and it was clear neither Denim nor Niy told her I ran into Gi.

“With Gi. We have a lot to discuss.”

“I see. I love you, baby. Let me know when you make it home.”

“Love you more, crazy lady.” Hanging up the phone, I began meandering through the house, looking for Gianni.

The more I searched, the more I fell in love with the architecture. His house was so put together that it looked like it belonged in a magazine. The bright colors of the sculpture immediately caught my attention. Taking it off the shelf for a closer look at the decorative vase, it was much heavier than I expected.

“Making yourself comfortable, huh?” Gianni’s voice entered the room, causing the vase to slip out of my hands. Thankfully he had good reflexes and caught it.

“I hope my baby doesn’t come out clumsy like you.”

“You shouldn’t sneak up on people.”

“You jumped because you don’t have no business going through people’s shit.”

“I have to get back home. I have a job and a doctor’s appointment on Monday.”

“What time Monday?”

“Three o’clock.”

“Send me the address for the appointment, and I’ll make sure you get home.”

“Thank you.”

“Don’t thank me yet. It won’t be your home much longer.”

“My job is there. My family is there. I’m not moving here,” I maintained.

“We’re getting married, Lo. What did you expect?”

“I don’t fuckin’ know! Famous couples live apart all the time.”

“We’re not famous,” Gianni groaned, massaging his temple. It didn’t take me long to pick up on the gesture he displayed when he was irritated, which had been a lot since we ran into each other.

“I’m not, but you’re something important. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.”

“I’m not raising my daughter in a split household.”

“I’m not quitting my job, moving away from my family and friends, to be some trophy housewife.”
