“If you did, you wouldn’t tell me no way.”

Hailo couldn’t fight her smile.

“You’ve been looking pretty pitiful. I might’ve tossed you a nugget or two.”

“That’s crazy. You’d really pick Sky over me? I was here first,” I dramatically shook my head while Hailo shrugged, heading out of the kitchen.

After grabbing chips and stealing candy from the jar, I walked back down the hallway, considering Hailo’s advice. I was hoping that Sky would do the right thing. That she would trust me as her man and let me into whatever she had going on. After talking with Hailo, that didn’t seem like an option, but knowing I wasn’t the only one who picked up on her fear made me even more curious.

“You took forever and didn’t bring shit back for nobody else,” Tyson complained.

“I know the thought of your sister getting fucked has you on edge, but chill out,” I fussed, causing Tyson’s jaw to stiffen.

“Aye nigga, I don’t want to think about that shit!” Gi fussed, wearing a twisted expression.

“Tell your man to leave me alone then.”

“Chill, Ty, he wants to be the only one walking around with an attitude,” Gi poked, causing Tyson to chuckle.

“Sky has his balls in her purse because he’s been trippin.”

“He’ll beat yo’ ass if you keep talking about me like I’m not here,” I retorted.

The two were mumbling words I wasn’t paying attention to as I dug my phone from my pocket. The last name I expected to see was Prince. Since Sky wasn’t working at the club anymore, we had nothing to discuss.

“Wassup?” I answered.

“We’ve got Adria down here. She’s too fucked up to get herself home. I figured you’d want to know,” Prince explained.

“I’m on my way,” I replied. Ty and Gi both looked at me as I hung up. “I gotta go pick up Adria.”

“You need us to roll with you?” Tyson offered.

“Nah, I’m good. I’ll get up with y’all tomorrow.”

They hesitated to let me walk out alone, but I didn’t need a babysitter. Climbing in the car, I drove to Paradise’s Dream and parked along the curb, shortening the transition from inside the club to my car.

“Hey Mack,” Courtney sang, catching my attention from the bar.

“Wassup. Where’s Prince?”

“Upstairs. I can call him down,” she offered.

“Please.”

“I got you,” Courtney smiled, walking to the phone. She briefly conversed before returning, letting me know Prince would be right down.

The club was packed, but that was to be expected here. Paradise’s Dream was at the top of every tourist’s list.

“Hate to trouble you tonight, Mack. I tried to call Sky, but she didn’t answer,” Prince explained.

“It’s all good. Thanks for looking out.”

“No problem. I had security take her to my office. She got belligerent when I told Courtney to cut her off.”

Prince looked exhausted from dealing with Adria’s shit as he led the way upstairs, and I could already hear her screaming before we even reached the door.

“You motherfucka’s are holding me against my will!” Adria yelled until the door opened, and I walked inside. “Mack!” she sighed in relief with her hand on her chest. “Oh, thank God!”
