Leo:: I just hate the thought of something derailing your career.

* * *

Leo: Especially after you finally got to move back here.

Raking a hand through his hair, Reid let out a long breath and contemplated whether or not he was going to respond.

Leo: Maybe we can grab a beer or something one night this week.

* * *

Leo: And hang out just the two of us.

He’d never realized his friend was the kind of texter who didn’t know when to stop, so he knew he had to chime in.

Reid: We’re good, Leo. Honestly.

* * *

Reid: And I’ve got plans with Ashlynn tonight and working the next two nights.

* * *

Reid: I’ll give you a call when I’m off and caught up on sleep.

* * *

Leo: Plans with Ashlynn?

* * *

Leo: So…

And yeah, Reid knew where he was going with this.

Reid: Yeah. Plans with Ashlynn.

* * *

Reid: Stop worrying. Everything’s going to be okay.

* * *

Leo: I really hope so. It sucks that it’s all playing out like this.

Tell me about it…

Reid: I gotta go. I’ll talk to you later in the week.

Sliding the phone back into his pocket, he inwardly groaned. He was tired of living in limbo like this and for the life of him, he couldn’t understand why the investigation was going so slowly and why no one had questioned Ashlynn. After all, if she were genuinely a suspect, wouldn’t they have done that by now?

The chief walked in and gave them all a nod but made no attempt at conversation.

And yeah, Reid took it personally.

It seemed like ever since their conversation about the fire at Lavish Locks and the chief’s opinion on Reid’s relationship with Ashlynn, things had been a little strained. And besides that, he had overheard a conversation that the fire inspector was coming back to Sweetbriar tomorrow and he had to wonder if it maybe tomorrow was going to be the day when it all hit the fan.

He had two options: he could sit here and silently wonder, or he could get up off his ass and ask.
