I’ve just arrived with Luna and Layla. We entered through the side entrance so none of Dominic’s bodyguards would spot Layla.

Outside, I have a team of police waiting to arrest him when I give the signal.

It looks like we arrived at the perfect moment. Dominic is just about to give his speech. Kimberly is sitting on the stage looking like she’s already first lady.

The sight of her disgusts me. I always knew something was up with that woman. I also knew she was well versed in her husband’s dirty affairs. Now I know I was completely right.

It was Kimberly who was posting to Layla’s Facebook and Instagram accounts. The bitch did the fake postcards too.

Layla said that Kimberly was brought into their home a year after their mother died and things were made to look like they had a business marriage.

Apparently, Kimberly and Dominic knew each other from college.

We find a seat in the back corner of the room. It’s perfect for what we need. People will see us when we need to be seen.

Dominic takes the stand and smiles at his loyal subjects like the king he thinks he is.

“Thank you very much, and good evening to you all,” he begins with a proud smile. “I have spent most of my life in politics and watched you all come together to create amazing things. I believe that we can do even better with the issues confronting us in not just our state but nationally. I am the man who promises to lead you to victory.”

Everyone cheers. Everyone except us.

“No nation in history has ever survived without unity and coming together to work hard for a common goal. If you elect me as your governor, I promise you a better tomorrow. I will be the symbol of hope, honesty, love, and success. I promise you these things.”

People cheer again. Then Layla stands, as if she can’t stand to hear another word of her father’s bullshit.

We decided to play this part of the plan by ear, but she wanted to do this.

She moves to the front of the hall. Dominic continues talking until he sees her, which is when he shuts down as if someone switched off his ability to speak. Kimberly looks as if she’s just shit herself.

“Don’t let me stop you, Dad,” Layla says in a vibrant tone. I know there’s no way she could have the energy to sound the way she does and look so confident, so I give her credit.

People look at her. They know she’s Dominic’s daughter, and those who really know him know she’s the rebel. I watch some people frown at her while others gaze on with interest.

Of course, Dominic looks at her as if he’s just seen a ghost because she’s supposed to be locked away in a mental institution in France.

“What? Suddenly speechless?” Layla continues with menace laced into every word. “I think you should tell the people how you locked me away for over nine months in a mental institution because I found out you killed my mother.”

Dominic’s face turns red. “Lies. All lies.”

“You’re the liar, you murderer!” Layla shouts. “You and that bitch killed my mother.” She points at Kimberly.

“Security, get her out of here.”

Dominic’s bodyguards head toward Layla, but not before Luna and I join her.

“Don’t you fucking dare touch her,” I snarl at the main guard when he arrives.

He squares off with me, ready to fight. I have no problem with that, so he can throw the first punch when he’s ready.

Luna stares at her father, shaking her head at him. On seeing her, Dominic is frozen again.

“This is the truth,” Luna declares.

In her hands is a little remote switch that controls the advertising board behind Dominic. At the moment, it’s blank. When she switches it on, the video of Dominic, Kimberly, and Melanie comes on and we all get to see what happened between them.

Dominic looks like all the life has left his body when he realizes what he and everyone else is watching.

The video plays out, exposing the true nature of the man who thought he would be New York’s next governor.
