“That is why I love you so much,” Ari said as she cradled Rafe’s cheek in her hand and kissed him.

All of the children had been looking at the adults as if they’d lost their minds. The oldest of Rafe and Ari stood.

“I say we revolt. Let’s go play with the Nerf guns.”

The children cheered and rushed from the room, leaving the adults laughing.

“They’ll be back for dessert,” Martin said as he held up his glass. The rest quieted as they lifted their own.

“I’m a blessed man. I have a beautiful wife who still surprises me and makes me happier than any man has a right to be. I have three beautiful children I’m prouder of than any father in the world. I have two adopted sons who bring me just as much joy. I also have daughters- and sons-in-law I’d gladly take a bullet for. All of you sitting at this table are unique and bring joy to my life. It wouldn’t be the same without a single one of you. Here’s to family, adopted family, Nana Bee, and many more years of blessings to come. Thank you.”

Everyone cheered before sipping from their glasses. Yes, Ella knew there’d be many more years of happiness heading their way. Life was good. It would only get better. While the story might be coming to the end, she was very happy that every single person at that table had been . . .saved.
