Epilogue

A year later

Carina

It's been a whirlwind, despite Jared's insistence on holding back and taking it slow. It's just not possible to hold back the storm when we're together. And when we are together neither of us wants to break the magical spell of closeness. I need him with me all the time and he tells me when I'm not at his side, he feels something’s wrong with his world.

We laugh about it now but it was pretty awkward when we all went back to the party. Mellie's friends who each seemed to have set her sights on my man, threw more daggers than a circus act. Jared felt it too.

“I need to be alone with you,” he clasped my hips as he whispered in my ear, making goosebumps rise all the way down my arms.

I took his hand and led him out of the house.

“Where to?” I asked.

He put me in the car and took me back to the hotel. I left my old room exactly as it was, needing nothing and stayed at the hotel with Jared until it came time for me to go back to my job. Of course I went back home to say goodbye to Dad and Mellie.

Daddy sat me down and had a very serious, dad style convo with me about my future. Asking me whether I'd thought ten years ahead, or twenty.

“Do you understand people don't stay young and beautiful forever?”

“I do, Dad. Really. And Jared has tried to show me the same, he took me to meet his mom. I know what I'm doing and if I don't, I have to learn by making my own mistakes.”

“He'll always protect and take care of her,” Mellie said, smiling like she was a little envious at my good fortune.

Not that she doesn’t adore Daddy, or that he hasn't protected and taken care of all his girls. But Jared is a man unto himself. A god. A vision. A superhero.

It came time for me to catch my flight to Boston.

“I should come with you,” Jared said.

“It's okay. I can fly across a couple of states by myself. You have stuff to take care of. Your deal.”

He had an important meeting in San Francisco that he'd already entailed problems with by staying to be with me.

“I don't care if the deal collapses,” he assured me. “This is more important. Nothing comes before you.”

The plans were all set.

I go back to work, my apartment and Jared will come out soon and find a place in Boston for us to live in together.

I was as excited as a kid at Christmas for this new life with Jared to start. I've traveled alone before but suddenly I felt like an independent woman, knowing this man was by my side. And my stomach was ripped with misery when it came time to leave for the airport.

My stuff was all packed, the new things Jared bought me, the very few things I took from my room when I went back to say goodbye to Daddy a second time. He hugged me really close, like we wouldn't be seeing each other again. Which in a way we won't. Not in the same way.

Then time came to leave and I clung to Jared harder than anything, my fingers digging into his hard muscle. He buried his face in my neck which always sets off a cascade of overwhelming electricity sparking between us. In moments he'd stripped me naked and I tore the sweater over his head to reveal his sexy stack of ab muscles.

My hands flew everywhere at once all over his hard ripples and inevitably settled at his belt, tugging at it and freeing his cock, pulling it inside me until I gained the relief of feeling him stretching my walls open for him. My body blossoming with undulations of pleasure at having him buried inside me.

“You can take the next flight,” he said, when I lay in the crook of his arm after, panting for air still but weightless and floating on a bubble of bliss.

I missed my flight and I couldn't give a damn.

“Or I'll charter you a plane.”

I snuggled into him closer, which was barely possible. Not a speck of space existed between our bodies.

“Not yet.”
