He pops the box open and shows me the most beautiful ring. It’s white gold with a modest solitaire diamond. It’s exactly what I’d pick out for myself.

“Yes,” I whisper, having a hard time coming to terms with this. I’ve wanted to marry Wyatt since I was a teenager and now it’s actually going to happen.

“I'm not sure she sounds all that excited,” Blake murmurs.

“Shut up, Blake. I'm very excited, I just wasn’t expecting it,” I say without ever taking my eyes off of my future husband. He takes the ring out of the box and carefully slips it on my hand. “When did you get this?”

“I’d rather not say.” Wyatt rubs the back of his neck and I instantly know it will be a good story.

“Nope! You have to tell me now! You only rub your neck when you’re embarrassed or uncomfortable.”

“Can't I tell you later?” He asks quietly.

“Nah, I really want to know the answer too.” Blake smirks.

“Us too,” Mom and Kennedy say at the same time.

“Fine,” Wyatt groans. “Do you remember the night we went to the haunted house and I punched Wes in the nose?”

“Literally one of the greatest nights of my life.” Blake smirks, making Dad scoff and roll his eyes.

“Well, as soon as I got back to school, I went to a jewelry store and had them make the ring for you.”

“Why didn’t you propose then?” Mom cocks her head to the side and stares at us.

“I hadn’t asked Wes’s permission yet. I waited and when I came home for Easter, I asked him… but then we broke up soon after that.”

“You’ve kept this for that long?” I stare down at my ring.

“Of course. I knew I’d use it eventually, or at least I planned to. To be honest, I thought we’d get back together long ago. I never imagined it would take eight years… And if it’s not the type of ring you want, we can get you something different. I kinda feel like it should be something bigger, but I bought it in college. Now I could afford something nicer.” He’s back to rubbing his neck and staring down at my ring.

“No, Wyatt. It’s perfect. I love it.”

“So… when’s the wedding?” Kennedy grins.

“As soon as possible,” I whisper.

Chapter 30

Wyatt

“What the heck is that glittering thing on your finger?” Macy jumps up and tries to climb over the guys to get out of the booth so she can attack Charlie.

She covers Cord’s face with her palm and uses that to steady her balance. She steps right on Smithy’s lap and he lets out a loud groan. Covey’s smart enough to slip out of his seat before she can cause him any physical harm.

“Are you engaged?” She practically shrieks as she takes Charlie’s hand and lifts it closer so she can get a better look at her ring.

Cici joins them from out of nowhere and checks out the ring too. The three of them look so happy.

“We are!” Charlie squeals. “Wyatt asked me to marry him tonight at dinner with our parents.”

They start jumping up and down like teenagers after their biggest crush asked them out and I can't help but chuckle. I’ve been smiling like an idiot since Charlie said yes.

I didn’tplan on asking her tonight, but the timing felt right and I figured I might as well lay it all on the line. Worst case scenario, she’d say no and things would be awkward for a few days. Been there, done that. It sucked, but I survived.

I only had the ring because I already planned to talk to Wes and ask him if I still had his permission to marry Charlie. Now, I'm glad I decided to take the ring with me.

“Damn, you actually, did it?” Leo wraps me in a hug.
