“I did. It took so much longer than I ever imagined, but she’s officially mine.”

“Hold up. I'm pretty sure she isn't yours until she says ‘I do’. Until then, I still have a chance to steal her away from you.” Smithy smirks.

“Not a chance in hell, man. I’m never letting her go again.”

“You both look so happy. It’s about time.” Cord clasps me on the shoulder and squeezes.

“Yeah, when does your time come?” I arch a brow in his direction.

“I'm getting there. You’ve got to give me some time.” He glances over at Macy with a smirk.

“I can't believe we’re getting married,” Charlie whispers into thedarkness.

“Why?” I run my fingers up and down her bare back. I’ll never get tired of having her naked body against mine.

“I don’t know. For so long, it felt like we were building towards this. Then the carpet got ripped out from under us. Now, it almost feels surreal. I mean we haven’t even been dating for long.”

“Did we need to? I know all of the important things about you, sweetheart. Everything that makes you Charlie Robinson. Does it matter if we spent a few years apart? Did you change entirely as a person?”

“No, it just seems weird.” She giggles. “Who gets engaged so quickly after getting back together?”

“People who never stopped loving each other. Sure, we weren’t together, but we both stayed loyal. We didn’t date or touch anyone else. We’ve only been with each other. To me, it sounds like we were made for each other and we both know it.”

“Yeah, I think you’re right.” She snuggles a little closer to me and lets out a soft sigh.

“Smithy spoke to me before we left.”

“Did he tell you he still has a chance?” She peeks up at me with a playful grin.

“He did earlier in the night.” I chuckle and press a soft kiss to the tip of her nose. “But right before we left, he asked if we’d do an interview with Liliana. Apparently, her boss is pissed at her for something and he was thinking if she gets an exclusive interviewwith us, then it might win her some brownie points. I told him I’d talk to you and let you know.”

“Do we get to read the story before it runs?”

“I'm sure we could if I told her that’s the only way we agree to doing it. I don’t see why she’d have a problem with it anyway.”

“Ok, I think I’d be ok with it then.”

We’re quiet for a few moments while I let my fingers trail over her soft skin. Her breaths fan across my chest with each exhale and it’s soothing me to sleep.

“Charlie?”

“Yeah?”

“Are you going to be ok when you get thrusted into the spot light? Arewegoing to be ok?”

“What do you mean?” She pushes up into a sitting position and the blanket pools around her waist. I get momentarily distracted and debate making her scream my name again, but this is important.

“Once the media finds out we’re dating, you’re going to get some unwanted attention. Paparazzi will try to take photos of you and will make up fake news about us. At least for a little while. Are you going to be ok with that? I don’t want anything to come between us ever again.”

“What if I'm not? Then what?”

“Then I’ll quit.” I shrug my shoulder. I’ve always wanted to play pro and the thought of not playing used to make me feel sick tomy stomach, yet now, it doesn’t. If the only way I can be with the woman I love is if I don’t play ball, then I won't play. She’s what matters. If nothing else, the last eight years proved without Charlie, my life is meaningless.

“You’re not quitting, Wyatt!” She lets her head fall back and her beautiful laughter fills the air. “We’ll figure things out one day at a time.”

“I'm just terrified of you walking away because it’s too much.”

“I'm not going to do that. And even if I did, I'm fairly certain you’d chase me.”
