“You got my name tattooed on your chest today?”

“Yeah.”

She stares at it for several seconds before she tips her head back. “You branded yourself with my name.”

I nod. “Yes. I belong to you.”

Biting her bottom lip, she runs her finger around the fresh ink, careful not to touch it. “It’s beautiful,” she whispers.

Letting her fingers trail along my skin, she freezes when she reaches my ribs. “Is that…Is that my name again?”

“Yes.”

Pulling her eyebrows together, she looks up at me. “Why did you get my name tattooed on you twice?”

“I didn’t. I got your name tattooed on me seventeen times.”

She gasps and jerks back slightly. “What?” she shrieks.

I reach out and gently cup her chin. “I wanted your name carved into me the same number of times you were hurt. I needed to feel your pain too. I wanted to absorb it, so you never experience it again. So you know just how fucking loved you are. I’d cover my entire body in your name if I didn’t already have so much ink.”

Bringing her hand up to her mouth, she lets out a sob. “Daddy…”

Unable to keep myself from touching her, I pull her into my arms. “I love you, Chloe. You’re mine, and I’ll spend the rest of my life protecting you, loving you, and shielding you from hurt.”

She clings to me for a long time, her face buried against my chest, her tears wetting my skin, my tears dripping into her hair. It’s raw and emotional and intimate. It’s us. Just us. As it was always meant to be. As it always will be.

Together forever, ’til death do us part.
